Hmm.. Interesting. Buyer opens a not received case after nonpayment

A buyer purchased an item with a  best offer. They failed to pay and a nonpayment case was opened and subsequently closed for nonpayment.

This morning I awoke to a not received case opened by the buyer. In the case the buyer states that they still want the item.

The only options that I have are to message the buyer,  provide tracking and interestingly refund the buyer.  I've been selling here for a long time and this is my first such incident but I find it odd that this would even be an option for a nonpaying buyer. Is this something that could maybe be fixed during an update or at least an option to escalate to Ebay so that they can close the case instead of me having to sit on the phone to get this done.

Seems like a buyer with a closed nonpayment case shouldn't have this option at all.

Yes, they are not suppose to be doing that unless you've set up for 'pick up' and they pay for the item still using the electronic payment processing (pre pay before coming or use your computer etc.) unless from one of these categories, which does not include most of the items sold and does not include a desktop printer.

Even with these categories, they cannot protect a buyer and get their money back when they pay via Money Order, Bank Transfer or Cash in person- they can only protect with electronic payment done through ebay.

So let me explain the real reasons for all of this. Ebay makes zero dollars on an unpaid item case. They must refund your final value fees. If the buyer opens an item not received case there are several opportunities for ebay to make money. If you complete the transaction ebay gets fvf. If you do not there is a chance you will get defects which likely raises your fees. So of course ebays gives fraudulent abusive buyers every opportunity to help ebay collect fees.

Btw this is the reason the trained ebay rep told you to let the case close on its on. The ball is in your court. Notice the line item in your sellers account called "cases closed without resolution." This is what happens if you do nothing for 21 days. And wrong info is what you get for calling overseas customer service. I suspect you need to talk to a minimum of 5 reps over 4 hours to find someone to close this case immediately in your favor.

That's just not true.

You should block buyers as soon as nonpayment cases open and forget about them.
