Hit with strange fees

I am someone new to selling on ebay and I was supposed to be part of a promoation where I don't have fees for a certain number of items sold. I also looked and you not supposed to have listing fees for the first 50 itms a month. I sold one thing and was hit with multiple fees. I was also hit with a "special duration" fee, for which there was no mention of previosily. Here are the fees:

Jun 3 00:34:48 Title Not Available -- View Item
Final price: $1.99 (Auction) 330125633755 Final Value Fee  $0.10 Jun 10 15:02:24 Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 PS4
3 day duration fee 332259460951 Special Duration Fee  $1.00 Jun 13 14:58:08 Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 PS4
Final price: $24.00 (Auction) 332259460951 Final Value Fee  $2.40

Can anyone tell me what's going on?

eBay charges extra for 3 day listings, and any other "add on's" or "extras" you fail to opt out of during listing.

Why was I charged a Final Value Fee?

Did your items sell?  If so you were charged FVF based on price.  That is never free.

Yes you sold two items at $24 each.  Free is for insertion fees not FVF.  If the buyer pays, you always pay those.

I think sometimes new sellers here somehow start off with a big misunderstanding about fees.  Yes, it certainly can be free to list here.  (Unless you also add special 'extras' to your listing, and then.. THOSE extras that you ALSO opted for aren't free.)

But the big thing is, while it can be free to list here, SELLING here triggers the fee.. the Final Value Fee, otherwise known as eBay's share of the sale.  Smiley Very Happy

Free to list.  Percentage owed to eBay if they bring you a sale.

You get 50 free basic insertions per month.  If you use only the free basic insrtions, and you don't add any upgrades, then you can LIST for free, which is probably what you were offered.  That is not the same as SELLING for free.    You have to pay for any optional listing upgrades, including subtitle, reserve, or an auction-format duration of 1 or 3 days.  Then if an item sells there's a 10% final value fee.   If you have a special offer for free final value fees, you need to provide a link for that.

Make sure you set all auctions for 7 days, its not worth paying the 3 day duration charge. You always get charged fvf, you did not get charged insertion fee.

You are confusing LISTING fees (the ad you offer the item for sale on) and FINAL VALUE FEES also called FVF (the percentage that Ebay takes for selling the item on their site).  It is the LISTING fees that are usually offered so many free (sometimes auctions, sometimes fixed price, sometimes only for regular 5 day listings) - the FVF are NEVER free.  Also Paypal takes a piece for handling the payment.

@coolthings357  EVERY Seller pays Final Value Fees (FVF).  You also pay fees to PayPal and on shipping costs.  At your level here they are:

1. eBay FVF = 10% on BOTH item and shipping

2. PayPal = 30 CENTS per Transaction Plus 2.9% on BOTH item and shipping

So off of every sale you make figure about 13% in fees.  If you select Upgrades like Bold Text, and others they charge a fee ... if you use a Reserve Price on an Auction ... you get charged that fee whether the item sells or not AND every time you relist.

7 day also triggers a fee - the regular auction time is 5 days.  However, fixed price (set price with no auction) can be up to 30 days.

Incorrect.  There is a fee for auction-format listings with a duration of 1 or 3 days.  Years ago, there was a fee for 10-day auctions. There has never been a fee for 7-day duration.

For auctions the 1 or 3 day duration costs extra to list.  For the 5, 7, or 10 day there is no additional listing fee.

^^

This is incorrect.

7 days is normal auction length and is included in the free listings.
