Hi Community Team --- What's Going On With Markdown Manager?

devon@ebay

One reason I like to use Markdown Manager to run discount sales is because of the price strike-through on the search results page and my store pages. The strike through makes it clear to experienced buyers that the discounted price is a limited time offer and this helps to create a sense of urgency.

So....I'm now running a 15% Off Markdown Manager Sale , everything in my store is 15% off though Monday.

Question: What is going on? Is ebay doing some sort of test of the tool? From what I'm seeing, ebay is applying the strike through randomly, with many discounted  items not displaying the strikethrough. The discounted price is shown, but, without the strike through, it simply looks like a regular, non discounted price, and thus lacks the sense of urgency.

The View Item pages DO show the strike through correctly, the issue is only with search results pages.

Some of my sale items show the strike through, some don't. Is this a test? A glitch? Some strange new, unannounced policy?

This reduces the value of Markdown Manager for sellers, and it definitely NOT  a magical experience. Can you please check with the appropriate team to figure out what is going on here?

(ETA: I'm using Chrome on a PC)

Hi Community Team --- What's Going On With Markdown Manager?

That is very strange.  Must be some kind of ebay glitch.  Hope they fix it before I run my sale.

Hi Community Team --- What's Going On With Markdown Manager?

Whenever I use the markdown manager there’s a note in there that says::It may take up to 12 hours from start time for the sale to begin”.  If you recently started your sale it can take up to 12 hours for all your listings to reflect the sale.

Not much point running a markdown sale if it doesn't show the 'mark down'.

@ebooksdiva  That's correct: for the sale event to begin" . But in this case, the event has begun: all prices have been properly discounted and the strike through and discounted price shows on the view item page. The price ebay is showing in search reflects the discounted price properly.

The problem is, the strike through is not showing for many of these items in search. I guess we'll see if it takes 12 hours for the strike through to appear for all items. But the sale itself is active. And has been active for 4 or 5 hours.

I suppose time will tell, but it would be nice to know whether this is some odd test or a glitch or just business as usual in the Magical Land of eBay.

Hi Community Team --- What's Going On With Markdown Manager?

Well, it's definitely well over 12 hours now, and I've seen no change....most of my listings are still not showing the strike through in search results.

devon@ebay  Could you please check into this? My own sale ends Monday night, but if this is a widespread test or glitch, it needs to be corrected or announced.

devon@ebay

My Markdown Manager sale ends late tonight. The problem has remained the same. It would be great to get an answer ASAP.

Hey @my-cottage-books-and-antiques! Let me get this over to the correct team to have this looked into this morning and I will share what I find out as soon as I hear back.

Ayup; that's confirmed (not that you needed confirmation, of course). I have never viewed your listings before, so cookies or cache would not be relevant here. A sprinkling of your listings are showing a strikethrough; the vast majority are not. The only clue that something might be going on is the odd pricing that results from the discount being applied behind the scenes: $10.62, $18.06, etc.

Hi Community Team --- What's Going On With Markdown Manager?

@a_c_green In a YouTube Comments section today I saw another seller asking about this, so I'm not the only one impacted by this. Hopefully, it will be resolved soon.

Hi Community Team --- What's Going On With Markdown Manager?

devon@ebay  Well, my Markdown Manager sale has run its course, and I still haven't heard anything from the Team,  but I'd still like to know why this didn't work properly? I might try running another one, but if it is still not working as expected, I don't know that I'll bother.

Hi Community Team --- What's Going On With Markdown Manager?

That's been my feelings over the last few years with a lot of ebay touted seller tools to the point where I rarely use any of them anymore, even the ones I used to use like MD Manager etc.

For me, I am seeing an issue with promotion start dates after September 19th.

In my screenshot, the horse promotion started on Sep 18th and has the strike-through price while the reindeer promotion started on Sep 26th and does not have the strike-through price. Every markdown promotion I started after September 19th does NOT show a strike-through price.

Hi Community Team --- What's Going On With Markdown Manager?

@mcdougle4248  So it sounds like this has been an ongoing problem for quite a while?

devon@ebay   Can we PLEASE get an answer here? One of the main reasons to use MM---ebay itself has said this---is because of the sense of urgency that the strike through creates. We are IN the Holiday Shopping Season and we really need ebay to at least provide tools that work properly.

@my-cottage-books-and-antiques

I am not sure when it started, but I first noticed it about a week or so ago, both in my store and in search. I reported it to customer service on Thursday or Friday of last week.

Another thing I found out the other day is that when I edit a markdown promotion to add more listings if the strike-through price was showing on the listings before editing, it will disappear from all the listings in that promotion after the edit is complete.
