Did you mean:

Hey you...

That's the salutation I've been getting on emails from ebay which go on to encourage me to buy something I wouldn't want to own in a million years.

My mother taught us kids that addressing someone as  "Hey you" is the height of rudeness.

Are these emails written by 12-year olds?

Re: Hey you...

Hmmmm, that's how I address the cat - 'Hey, you - Hey, cat - Hey, you, cat!'

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

The foolishness of one's actions or words is determined by the number of witnesses.

Perhaps if Brains were described as an APP, many people would use them more often.

Evening,

SO AGREE!

If someone is looking to encourage me to part with some hard earned dollars I recommend they start with:

Hi, How's the Lovely Mrs C?

Mr C

and the Marvelous Mr C!

Whoever thought up the "Hey you" email probably earns more than any of us.

So?

That doesn't make it any less rude or juvenile.  Cash != Class

If it works, sell it. If it works well, sell it for more. If it doesn't work, quadruple the price and sell it as an antique.

Re: Hey you...

That’s interesting.

Based on this posting I went and looked at the past several emails I received from eBay, including the one about stores nearby closing. There was NO SALUTATION. Not “hey you” or any other greeting.

Which makes me wonder if someone else isn’t forwarding these.

I have received emails from outside of eBay trying to sell me some service or other but they take the effort to make it look like it comes from eBay. (there are clues to look for to determine fakes).

Re: Hey you...

Maybe this is a result of the "millennial" topics that have come up lately. Focus on the ones who shorthand everything. Ugh!

And fwiw nothing like having Pink Floyd on the brain before bed! Much prefer the cha-ching of Money ....from eBay of course 😉.

Re: Hey you...

I try not to get my knickers in a twist over things that are unimportant and out of my control. I just wish they'd stop sending emails. I guess I need to revisit the email settings on all of my accounts and double check.

My Grandmother used to say "hay is for horses" too but she was born in 1913. I sometimes use hey instead of hi as a salutation when I talk to people. I don't find it offensive. Of course I spend a lot of my time out in the world with young people and have two 20 somethings in my household.

Now when people use irregardless or sells instead of sales, that does annoy the heck out of me. Yeah, I'm working on that.

And don't forget the sells instead of sales counterpart of using sale when they should use sell.
