Hey, MP sellers, stop telling me that I can only pay with PayPal!

I don't get it - why do sellers discourage sales by claiming that they will only accept PayPal?  It makes no sense - so many sellers complaining about sales, and some are actively discouraging those that prefer to use a credit card, ApplePay, etc..

Yes, I understand that perhaps a seller that is just moving to MP might not feel like updating listing details if he has 1,000 low-value items.  In my case, I was looking at a $700 turntable, so worth taking the time to actually look at your cut-and-paste TOS for obvious issues.  This isn't an old listing - I know because I've been looking for this item for a couple of months, and regularly search for it.

There were several TOS items that discouraged some buyers - but I understand a seller not wanting to ship to Hawaii or Alaska, freight forwarders, etc..  What I don't understand is why you would exclude a good number of buyers - and perhaps the ONE right buyer that comes along - by clinging to antiquated digital wallet approach.

I believe ebay lists all the available payment methods on each listing.  I wouldn't worry about what a seller states that may be contrary to that.   Plenty of sellers still state all kinds of terms of sale that aren't appropriate or enforceable.

All you have to do is choose one of the payment methods eBay gives you on every listing.

If a seller requests a different method, or tries to demand a different method you just ignore them and pay the way eBay has it set up - nothing to do with managed payments at all.

As for a sellers TOS - these are over ruled by eBay's rules regarding returns and refunds etc

There is no way for any seller to enforce that requirement.  Use eBay checkout, and you can pay any way you want.  The seller is not informed what payment method you used.

If they cancel your payment and want to send you a PayPal invoice or money request, that is something else entirely.

Hey buddy, allot of sellers have not updated their descriptions for YEARS. Allot of sellers may have never changed their description since they started selling.

Whatever eBay shows that you can pay with that its what you can pay with.

Well, you are absolutely correct, and I do know that I can pay however I want.  I'd actually use PayPal - that isn't the issue.  It is just so odd and disappointing that sellers actually try to steer people to PayPal, and might lose some buyers in the process.  Not all buyers understand that they can choose from the eBay approved payment options.

Thing is, the turntable that I want is fairly difficult to find, at least at a reasonable price.  It is a limited edition piece, so I'm lucky if I find one listed on eBay, and maybe 2-3 on other sites.  So, those that want to find this item look at many sites, usually using Google Shopping.   You might get someone who never buys on eBay find that item trough a search outside of eBay, but when he gets to the eBay listing, and reads the seller TOS, decides not to buy.  Maybe the potential buyer doesn't want an account with PayPal, maybe he doesn't trust PayPal, and assumes that only sketchy sellers would offer it.  Heck, maybe he thinks that the seller is asking for someone to finalize a transaction outside of eBay.

Sorry, I just can't see the issue, if seller's want to do this and they lose sales that doesn't bother me as a seller or a buyer.

Experienced seller's know not to do this, and the inexperienced seller's who don't take the time to research and learn how eBay works won't last long here anyway.

Before Managed Payments, PayPal was the only method most sellers accepted.

I suspect these listings were created before the seller enrolled in Managed Payments, and the seller simply has not updated the listings to reflect the new reality.

I always thought Ebay decided what payments a seller can take, not the seller.  Does this seller have only paypal for payment in their listing? Just curious.

I don't understand.     Mangement Payment (MP) sellers don't receive funds into their Paypal account, so how you pay, is not important to them.

As a previous responder already stated, many sellers use listing templates that say something like "Payments through Paypal only."   Sure, the listing templates probably should be updated.    eBay had made sellers jump thru hoops updating everything on a listing page.....   cut the sellers some slack.

If you seller is trying get you to pay directly to their Paypal account, that is and always was, a violation and should be reported.

You found an item you want.  Buy it or not.  Pay how you want.    Your choice.

I don't think it's really much more than just old boilerplate text, from back in the day when a buyer could send a check or money order, but a lot of sellers (understandably) didn't want to bother with those. Nowadays, all that text does is discourage buyers for no good reason.

Putting it another way: a seller in Managed Payments has no way of knowing what payment method the buyer used anyway, so that PayPal-only declaration doesn't make any sense. Sellers should get rid of that old text.

They may think that if the buyer selects PayPal the transaction will avoid the Managed Payments system?  I can't think of any other reason.  Or they are attempting to take the sale off ebay without directly stating it.  I suppose you can take your question to each seller that bothers you.

Many Sellers have descriptions and terms that are not enforceable.  If they are enrolled in MP, you can pay however you wish.  There are Sellers that may not yet be converted based on the daily board posts.

Buy your turntable - you're covered under the MBG regardless (with very few potential exceptions).  Good luck.

LOL just a couple weeks ago I saw a TOS saying that they hold shipping until the check clears their bank, money orders ship upon receipt.  It was obviously an old template but geez...

Maybe message that buyer and let them know they are using an outdated TOS. Or not. Just buy it. Sellers don't know how buyers pay (apple pay, paypal etc). At least I don't, and I don't have the will or the want to check it out.

If you don't purchase your precious, then thats on you. If you come across a listing and you want to "help" the seller, you can always communicate, which is the one thing people on ebay fail to do A LOT and in turn causes upset sellers and buyers.

Good luck. Sounds like you may be in the possession of a great find.....but its up to you to click that BUY button!

Happy Holidays!
