when I did a search for an item, using my cell phone and email address (gmail), which is not the same as my account email address. eBay automatically created a new account for me! I did not see anything which would indicate this happened. I did my search and went about my business. Later, I received this email from eBay and just about had heart attack. I called right away and a very helpful CS rep was able to clear up the whole situation quickly.
Lesson learned...keep my old, non tech savvy fingers off of my phone when it comes to eBay.

What do you mean by doing a search "with an email address"?
On eBay, you either search when you are logged into an eBay account, or when you are not logged into an eBay account.
Or is this some sort of phone app thing I am not aware of?

I Googled ebay with my cell phone, when the site opened, it asked me if I would like sign in with my gmail address and I did. Everything after that looked fine, I did my search and closed it out.
From what I understood from the CS rep, when I choose to sign in with my gmail address (or maybe I should say gmail account) ebay automatically created a new account for me. Maybe it was there somewhere indicating a new account had just been created, but I did not see it.

I don't understand how creating a new account would lead to a suspension message since your original account is in good standing.

I don't understand it either.

We had an employee who recently moved here. While at work he made an eBay account to purchase something. He ended up getting this email on HIS account that his account was closed, and our account got some kind of warning for security where we had to call in and clear it up. Luckily, it did NOT take our listings down.
But I have no idea why they do this. Seems really risky.

It did not take down any of my listings either. But, I was in my workshop when the above email came in on my cell phone. I immediately forwarded the email to my main email address and ran into the house, so I could read it on my PC and check my eBay account (which looked fine). Then the call to CS took care of everything, but I was kind of scared there for a few minutes.

In other words, this is another test/glitch. People get the email but nothing actually happens to their accounts.

Which account was suspended though? If it was the new one like in Zamo's example then there wouldn't be any listings to take down.

Did this very helpful CS rep explain the situation? As in, what was the situation? What did the rep do to "fix" it?
I think many some I am still confused.

This appears to be the case, as my account seems to be just fine.

The newly created account was suspended. And, yes there were no listings to take down. The way the email reads made it sound like (to me anyway) the suspension would affect all accounts.

When you logged on from your cell phone did you use your same ebay id ? or visit as a guest?
when I use my cell phone or laptop in public, I never log into any of my ebay accounts. If I want to see how an account is doing or to see if I have any more sales or bids I do an advance search for whichever seller id I want to look at and just look at my listings that way. gives me a chance to see how other people's see my listings too.

As I understood from the CS rep, the situation occurred when I used my gmail account to sign into eBay from a Google search. The CS rep removed all of the activity that created the new account and told me everything was taken care of and this would have no impact on my current account.

I think I am confusing everyone here, sorry. I Googled eBay from my cell phone. I opened eBay from Google. Then my phone ask me if I wanted to sign in with my gmail account and I did that. Nothing seemed odd to me at this time. I did my search, closed it out and that was all until the email came in on my gmail account.
