Effervescence,

How did you pay for your item? If it was thru PayPal you have 180 days to file a item not received complaint. If it was thru a Visa, MC, Discover or Amex you have up to 6 months in some cases. I believe Visa and MC are 120 day limits.

FALSE. We will never know the sales that could have been if search didn’t return promoted irrelevant garbage instead of accurate results.

We will never know the sales that could have been from buyers shopping somewhere else because they always get fake Chinese garbage.

We will never know the sales that could have been without incompetent programmers that have the site down every other day.

I could hardly list items Tuesday because the categories were all F-ed up and wouldn’t load. Looks like it was pretty well off since then. Im seeing activity again this morning. I lost 40 sales likely in just the past two days because while the entire site may not be off, most of the listings are.

They are continually screwing with it and hiding a lot of items in the process. When they finally rest for a day Ill sell $4000 inside of 24 hours before they are back at it and it drops to $200 per day. My graph is a roller coaster.

    I don’t understand why they don’t care.

So you are of the opinion that buyers search out Ebay's quarterly reports first before they decide to buy on the site or not?  Why would they do that?

Re: Here is one reason why Sales are down for 2022

maybe ebay needs to work on their ebay store, and add better photos.  had to add this.

my sales are down 30% a year since the covid high, our page losses are down 10% each month and we still increase our listing count each month.  we are upto 7150 listings and we are at 1/2 the sales from 3 years ago.

i am a full-time comic con dealer and we are up at the events year over year, but ebay is a disappointment we can't figure out.  we are a top seller with 99% feedback and it does not make a difference.

ebay has lost is way, and they do not know how to turn the ship around.  only thing left is to reduce the pricing and sell for free, like the bigger box stores.  makes a big dent online, and you loose millions of dollars.

the online model is broken.   we need some 16 year old kid on shark tank with a lemon aid stand to teach us what to do.  my experiences in sales for 37 years, does not, work online.   using tried and true practices of success from the past, don't work any more.  i need to hire a kid to teach us how to think, like them, or we will be forced from the game.

wishing everyone a happy holiday and properious new year.

Ebay is NOT responsible for adding pics to anyone's store.  That is the responsibility of the Seller.  So if you are in need of better pics, then you need to upgrade them.

Re: Here is one reason why Sales are down for 2022

Is it actual losses, like they had to pay and are out of pocket 2 billion, or decreases in expected revenue/income?

Re: Here is one reason why Sales are down for 2022

Several responses to this thread feel that it's too easy to blame the economy for the lack of sales, that it has to be something else. I wouldn't be so dismissive of the economics here. While the cost of gasoline has come down the same can't be true of many other day to day commodities. Shrinkflation is a huge widespread problem and it's pretty obvious as one walks thru any grocery store. As an example, remember when a bag of sugar was 5 pounds, now it's 4 pounds but at the 5-pound price.  A loaf of decent bread costs almost 5 bucks, a gallon of milk costs more than gas, a 12 oz pack of bacon costs as much or more when it was a pound, a pound of bacon can cost up to 10 bucks or more.

Here's a good one, let's talk about Spam. I grew up on this stuff and in my time, it was considered poor people food. You couldn't afford anything more substantial and basically you were buying scrapple in a can. Ever see the cost now??? Denim clothing was also considered poor people clothing growing up but look at it now. Beat the snot out of it, holes in the knees and maybe in a few other places and now you have a fashion statement and triple, at least, the price. There is a plethora of examples out there.

The price of beef, pork, chicken, basic staples have gone up considerably and every extra dollar spent on actual living expenses is a dollar less spent on anything else. I don't see how it wouldn't eventually impact Ebay, at least to some extent. If the loss of active sellers is accurate one could surmise that the cause is a lack of sales and they decided to move on to other sites. One thing Ebay doesn't have and that's a shortage of people selling on its site. One could argue seller saturation.

It is neither! GAAP earnings show a big loss but Non-GAAP earnings do not.

GAAP earning are down because of a change in the value of eBay's equity investments (other companies they own a share of). This is entirely unrelated to the core business. Non-GAAP earnings are based on actual current activities rather  than outside investments which can go up and down based on the value of those investments.

A very similar situation occurred for Amazon a year ago, their Q1 GAAP earnings went through the roof mostly based on their holdings of Rivian shares. Those shares fell off a cliff in Q1 2022 so Amazon had a dramatic drop in their GAAP numbers.

The basic problem with this entire thread is that the OP doesn't understand the difference between GAAP and Non-GAAP accounting principles.

Silly.  This is a long thread with many active sellers.  Not sure what you are trying to start with your comments.

Re: Here is one reason why Sales are down for 2022

I heard sales have been slow on several other platforms, not just eBay. Like the stock market, 2022 hasn't been a very good year for business; at least not with higher costs of goods and living expenses. I wish you all luck and that we can have a better year with sale abundance in 2023.

STAY STRONG SELLERS!  🙂🎊:ebay::ebaylogocolorchange:

Payoneer would have nothing to do with sales.  It is something that sellers use to process their money.

Re: Here is one reason why Sales are down for 2022

Been on eBay for 17 years.......this year sales are down 16% and for some reason sales fell off the cliff beginning Sept 1 2022........so I wonder what this quarter will look like for eBay? The platform is antiquated....clunky....repetitive and worn out. At the beginning of Covid in 2000, they closed all communication services via phone.....no more phone calls. Says how important services for sellers and buyers are. Sellers are going elsewhere and the Chinese are everywhere on eBay.....cutting prices ....impossible to compete with them. They can still ship anything to USA for less than $3.00 while I can ship anything to California for less than $5.00.
