Help me think this through

I offer 30 day free returns.  I sold a necklace 9/22, shipped 9/22 and it was delivered 9/25.  On 10/8 buyer files return for'changed my mind'.  Okay. I accept returns. paid the label.  She doesn't ship until today, 10/28. Over 30 days from receiving it.

Doesn't seem right.  I'm sure she has worn it, etc. But, still. I think I shouldn't have to accept this type of return after 30 days.  I'm sure Ebay gave them more time. But, this is so wrong.

Re: Help me think this through

The kinder and Gentler eBay as we know it today has a rule that the

"Customer is always right"

Customer = Buyer

Is the buyer also a seller?   Some people like to take things and

try to re-sell at a profit knowing full well they can stick the

seller with a return.

You have to ask yourself,   Is this a battle worth fighting?    Most

of the posters on this board will tell you to take the return and

live with it.

It is not right.    It is not fair.   But the buyer has the ways and means to win,  And you do not.

Not wrong at all.  I I'm dissatisfied with a purchase to the degree that I opt to return it, I'm probably not in rush to prioritize repacking and getting it to the post office.

Re: Help me think this through

They give buyers a few weeks to get the items returned.

As long as they started the return in time, not much you can do.

Have a great day.

Really? I'm not that type of buyer. If the seller is good enough to pay the postage to and from on an item 'I changed my mind' on, I do my part responsibly. It's called being an adult.

That 30 day return window is a sticking point on many

of these issues we read about on this board.

The buyer might not be aware of a 30 day return time limit.    And

probably wouldn't care to hear about it.

ebays return window is 30 days.

Paypal is how long?   Everything I buy on ebay

the payment goes thru Paypal for that extra protection.

If the buyer uses a credit card she can wait what,   180 days before she

does a charge back?

We sellers are at the mercy of these buyers that like to play games.

Re: Help me think this through

It's the amount of time Ebay gives the buyer to ship back once they file a return case. I have had this same situation done to me as a seller. I don't worry about it too much. Once I receive the item back I just put it back up for sale as long as its within the time Ebay allows the buyer. Once time expires then I don't have to worry about it and the buyer needs to sell the item if they want money back from it.

Help me think this through

She doesn't ship until today, 10/28. Over 30 days from receiving it.

Your 30 day return policy gives the buyer 30 days to REQUEST a return, not 30 days to COMPLETE a return.

Mystery solved. 👍

Accept the return.

Don't nit-pick over a few days.

(Did I spell nit-pick correctly?)

@bill.purvis2012

I understand how you feel.  Seems Ebay would have to stick to their own rules on this, but keep in mind the dates.

It is NOT that the buyer has 30 days from the date they receive the item to ship the item back to you.  That isn't the rule.  They have to FILE the claim within 30 days of purchasing it.  Then they get some long period of time to return it to you.  So they are likely within that timeframe as Ebay extended it a while back and have never changed it.

So while it would make me a bit upset, I would still process the return when it arrives.  I also think if you try to fight it, Ebay would likely do the same thing.

That is to file for the Return, NOT how much time they have to return the item to the seller.  That does NOT have to be shipped or returned within 30 days of receiving it.

You offer free shipping and free returns, and agree to eBay's parameters. It's called adhering to your policies.

Re: Help me think this through

It seems to be roughly 21 days from the time they return is opened and you send the label and when the buyer has to ship it back. They likely realized their deadline was nearing. You are TRS. You know what to do should the necklace come back to you in some other condition.

We all have our triggers, I suppose.  I wouldn’t be upset about a buyer using what eBay considers a reasonable amount of time to send back a package, remorse return or otherwise.

The way I see it is that you offered something to your buyers, and you are now upset that someone took you up on that offer.
