Just brainstorming for ideas so I don't accidentally offend some of these buyers I get sometimes.
Buyer bought something on Saturday. Sunday morning he types in caps "I paid, but it hasn't shipped. What's wrong?" I mainly told him that we (and USPS) doesn't open on Sundays and the item was sent on Monday.
Come Wednesday he comes back with another all capped message "This package has not moved to me. Totally ridiculous." I checked tracking and he's wrong, the package has moved sorting facilities since then. Not sure what he's looking for in the tracking to satisfy him. ebay ETA shows July 1, and USPS tracking ETA shows July 1. So there's no problem.
Message verbiage suggestions please. Go!

I would agree that you at this point you want to keep it short and sweet, to the point. Keep an eye on it and i would follow up once it is scheduled for delivery (another personalized form response) and soon after it is delivered.
I don't use the buyer's name unless they sign their name when they write to me (then that's the name I use when I respond). Too many people throw a fit for being called the wrong name nowadays, I'd rather not use a name and offend if I have one of those types of buyers.

Look at your Manage Items Sold screen to figure out your buyer's first name. Begin your reply with your buyer's first name. Some study showed more buyer satisfaction when messages are personalized that way. You can show empathy by finishing your message like this:
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Sincerely,
Your first name

I remember reading a study about that. -It totally DEPENDS on the emotional setting, with opposite effects. Saying someone's name when either of you is upset, irritated, etc. tend to be taken as hostility, like how a grown up would insert your name when scolding you as a child. I don't know about anybody else but I have noticed that Eastern-country phone reps tend to toss my name in there, and I mean A LOT, and when it's a frustrating situation (which .... how often is that not the case at that point) it irritates the bejeezus out of me. Same with when they say "ma'am" way more times than necessary.
But the person's name inserted in a positive exchange, it's music to their ears. I remember when I delivered food, I started an experiment comparing saying vs. not-saying the customer's name (from their credit card) when they opened to the door. -WAY more tips on those nights, without fail, so I made a habit of it.

Me: $4.67

I like Amazon's message when you print a shipping label.
Though I'd say Amazon's is completely false information but when you print a label the message is
"Carrier picked up the package"
EBays is. "Tracking number provided" and if you are waiting until Monday the next thing will most likely be "awaiting item".
Amazon's stops a lot of pointless messages.

Yea that is a pretty interesting concept that I haven’t put much thought into. I can definitely agree that having my name repeatedly said back to me from CS reps is pretty irritating, especially when they would say it at the weirdest inopportune times. But it could mainly be because my name is unusual and difficult to pronounce to many so it’d always just get butchered. Then again I also hated it as much when they would just use “Mr. (My last name)”. That annoyed me just as much. It’s like stop trying to make friends with me and fix the **bleep** glitch. I’m not calling you to look for companionship, make your stuff work.
Related note, I also hated it when those reps would re-use cliches over and over throughout the call as silence fillers “your call/issue is important to us”, “I understand your problem”, “I get what you’re saying”, etc. Mainly because it’s followed by bad news that seems to contradict that cliche they said. I.e. “Your call/issue is important to us but there is a long queue in front of you and your issue isn’t significant enough for us to look at because not enough people have reported it.”
That also reminds me of how my wife used to talk to my kids when they had tantrums. “I know you’re frustrated/angry/upset, but (then she’ll say something that’ll fan the kid’s flames despite the kid’s bad mood). It’s kinda lip service, like when people start a sentence with “no offense but” as permission to then type something offensive.
I recall hearing about a poll or something where waiters and waitresses weighed in about how they felt when customers would read their names off their mandatory name tags and called them by their name throughout their meal service. Some liked it, and some totally hated it. I forgot their reasoning.

This here - if they sign their name, I use their name. I always, without fail, sign my own first name. (And it's not just "nowadays" - people have always reacted poorly to being called the wrong name - I know, because I was called the wrong name until I just changed my first name to stop it).
The key is not to use too many words, load any emotions or be sappy-sweet. Just be plain and honest.
ETA: eBay needs to designate that an item is 'in transit' instead of just 'shipped' - I agree.

I always bought USPS postage ( via eBay) on purchases on late Fri or weekend days with 1 or 2 ship date. Did my best to get an acceptance scan by our local USPS office by noon on Saturday or hand off to the USPS mail delivery person if they run by after noon > worked out a system with our carrier - where they would scan at time of pic-up - bribery was involved - made the best oatmeal raisin / walnut cookies (receipt on the in side lid of Quaker Oats box (the walnuts I added - that's the way Mom did it) and in the fall store bought chocolate covered Georgia pecans - . People want their already paid for purchase NOW - Amazon spoiled them and it seems reasonable after all the customer/buyer and his $$ is King in my book - sold for 41 years. Gotta' keep up withe the Big Dog if you want to be successful, In similar words "if you want to fly with the eagles you can't hoot with the owls". Yes am a male Capricorn (on the cusp I've been told) - '44 model.
Never thought I was always right only had mostly **bleep** and Cs in HS & college with a scattered A or 4.0

Make sure you add the cost of them cookies into the item price of your listings.
Also, it's almost impossible to ship a late Saturday order on a Sunday morning with USPS. I don't think the Big Dogs even do that.

I had an exchange with a buyer a couple weeks ago and they kept changing their signature. I messaged them and called them "Edward" per the name on their order and they signed their reply "Eddie" so on the next response I called them Eddie and on their next reply they signed it Edward. I guess the dude was happy with either.

Many buyers purchase on Amazon as well and if they have prime they expect that items should show a tracking number right away and in my opinion ebay sellers need to all be cognizant that it is best to get this stuff tracked and out and fast shipping to buyers nowadays. It’s one of the issues Ebay has been dealing with for years with many of their sellers on here with people getting frustrated when sellers have extended handling times on their listing and Lazy shipping practices. You did everything right here but some buyer probably get nervous on here knowing many sellers on here do not ship fast or efficiently, Mainly to save money.

I only use USPS PRIORITY mail flat rate. It is the fastest way to get items to customers using USPS. I avoid any problems associated with long, delayed packages and the angry customers as a result of their sloooower services.
