Has anyone out there tried Pirateship.com for your shipping. They say their Priority mail pricing is cheaper because they use Priority Mail Cubic pricing.

8x8x4 will ship at .2 cubic, should save as much as $2 per package depending on zone. Plus weight doesn't matter as long as it's under 20lbs.

They import all the info from eBay but you do have to enter the weight and dimensions of the package. I’ve saved quite a bit of money there & they offer $100 of insurance instead if $50.

Is that free insurance?
Deciding whether to bother with this, learning and doing the work involved. Is it worth it for better sales? That would be my only motivation, customers liking the shipping prices better. So let's say I sell a lot of 3-4 lb packages in a 10x10 box. Approximately what is the savings? Or even 2 lb packages.

You can check the prices without signing up right on their website. Or you can sign up for free and try it out. If you ship small packages over 1 pound its definitely worth it if you want to save money. I use free shipping for most items so every dollar I save on shipping is more profit.
If you mean 10x10x10 that does not qualify for cubic. Max cubic is .5
L x W x H / 1728 then round up to .1 .2 .3 .4 .5 those are the five tiers

Pirateship is great. They answer questions immediately. It's much like the fine old eBay Classic shipping page. Super easy and no problems.

question i have is if all labels for there have to be 4x6". and i couldn't figure out which printers work with it from just looking at the site without actually buying a lable. or are they doing the same "pdf" print file thing?

I and several others have found no evidence eBay is getting rates below commercial. They are simply rebating 3% of the 10% they charge you for shipping as way for you keep to printing your Top Rated labels on eBay instead of going elsewhere. The pirateship staff member I talked to via email concluded eBay is doing the 3% discount on their own and its not due to a special deal with USPS.

Use them often as I have more than one account.
It makes no sense to use eBay labels if you are using a accoun that is not Top Rated as pirateship gives you the same commercial pricing with $100 insurance instead of $50 and gives you cubic pricing.
They have a second popup menu above the popup menu for flat rate and regional boxes and envelopes on which you can enter custom package sizes and weights you commonly use.
In this example I added the top and side loading regular Priority Mail boxes I use regularly with a default weight of 2 pounds. Click on one of these and the box dimensions and weight of 2 pounds is entered automatically. You can easily edit the 2 pound default weight.

Yes. Free $100 insurance and way cheaper than eBay on larger heavier items.

For me the "sweet spot" where PirateShip is cheaper than eBay (with a TRS discount) is for boxes 10x8x6 and under weighing 1 to 3 lbs. This is for domestic shipping, I don't ship international so I don't know how those compare.

no but if pirates are involved I'm in

It's not a competitor, it's a shipping service that does not prevent eBay from getting their shipping fees tribute in any way.
If anything, it's better for eBay since cubic rate USPS Priority shipping means buyers can get their orders cheaper and quicker than parcel select or normal priority mail. It's no more a competitor than shipping UPS or FedEx.

So are we backing off on the common complaint that eBay makes money on shipping labels? I hear that claimed a lot. If this is true any other company that makes money from shipping labels is a competitor for that part of the business.
