You do realize that USPS rates recently went up? For instance I used to charge 3.00 for a padded envelope, but now the post office charges 3.50 which is what I now charge. But ebay also charges me 10% of that 3.50, so I am losing 35 cents actually. Also add the cost of the padded envelope and the gas to drive to post office. Don't blame the sellers as most try to keep the cost as low as possible.

Do not forget the 3% Paypal charge too.

I just don't know why buyers complain about shipping. I look at the TOTAL cost of the item when I buy.

They have to raise their shipping charges to cover for the USPS price hike. Some have even raised prices on their items as well. I don't blame them at all, it's a part of doing business.

I dont understand how sellers can charge $2.99 shipping on a $.99 cent item and it doesnt sell or gets only 1 bid.. the cost of eBay fee's and packing material is enought to charge $5 for just shipping alone not including the item.
ignorance is bliss I guess

Right I always think anything not flat that sells for $5 and under on ebay isn't really profitting.
And OP, I haven't noticed but I'm glad if it's true. I'm still surprised how no one really raises their prices yet. Fast food burgers have almost doubled in price recently and still ebay sellers haven't really raised prices much. We gotta catch up with the times man!
OT: I find it hilarious that the 6 dollar burger at Carl's Jr costs about $7 now

Unfortunately - many buyers are unaware like the OP that shipping costs increased as I've had a few shipping cost star dings - and in some cases - I didn't raise the shippig costs high enough and was paying out of pocket!

I think a lot of buyers are oblivious to shipping costs. I've had conversations with a few of my buyers in the past and they were shocked to hear how much it cost to ship their item. They said if they saw the ship cost separate from the item cost they wouldn't have purchased. Some of them said that even if I had charged half the shipping cost with the rest rolled into the item price they still wouldn't have purchased because half of the actual cost was too high. The concept of free shipping is important to the 20-somethings.

Has anyone else noticed that sellers are increasing there shipping charges?
I've noticed.
My packing and postage costs have increased, so I have raised mine a bit. They are still under the actual cost of postage, but much less so now.
I used to put 50 cents of the postage into the item and charged 50 cents below postage cost. Recently I added 35 cents back onto the postage cost.

You can count on seeing shipping costs go up as carriers (USPS, UPS, FedEx) increase their prices every year like clock work - in the Dec/Jan time period. Sellers need to recover these costs.

For as long as I've been on eBay (since '01) and as a Seller (since '03) buyers have always complained about shipping, always. Even with free shipping, the buyer is paying one way or another because nothing in life is free.
At times, I feel I should just list the item at .99 along with the address and driving directions and let the buyers drive and pick up. Although they would still find something to complain about . . . "I had to drive for 5 days; traffic was heavy; I need return gas/toll money" . . ., the list could go on and on 😞
