Have a BIN for sale. I have interest from a guy in Italy. I usually do not ship internationally, but might be willing to do so, if he's the only one interested. Item is a lot of two vintage slide rules, priced at $150, with free domestic shipping. Both together will fit in a small USPS flat rate box.
Read on this message board some horror stories about shipping to Italy.
Ive never used the Ebay Global Shipping Program, and thought I might try it in this case. But I've looked and can't tell how much it would cost me as the seller-only that there's a surcharge added to my eBay bill for the month.
Thoughts on on how much it would cost me in fees and if it might be a good idea, in this particular case?? My understanding is, I mail sold item to KY via USPS and I'm off the hook, once it arrives in KY. If item doesn't make it to Italy or gets held up in customs, it's not my problem at that point. Seems like a great idea-as long as the surcharge isn't exorbitant.
TIA.

You only have to ship the item to Kentucky the buyer will be paying the rest of the bill to get it to them. Are they after the silde rules?

Where did you see that there was a surcharge for sellers for using the GSP? I think you must have misunderstood, because there are NO additional charges for using the GSP. The fees are exactly the same as if you sold the item any other way.

Standard eBay selling fees and PayPal fees apply, including PayPal's transaction fees for cross-border payments
Your final value fee is calculated based on the total amount of the sale, including domestic shipping charges (if any). Sales tax is not included

OOOOPSY!!! missed the slide rule statement. Not a high fraud item and shouldn't have any problems..

You'll need to revise the listing to show GSP and once thats done you can click on the shipping section reset the dropdown box to Italy and see what your buyer is going to have to pay...

That's it in a nutshell. You just ship to KY, and that's your shipping cost. I once had a pair of decanters ship to Africa, and eBay notified me that the decanters were banned items, and told me not to worry, as nothing needed to be done on my end, that I will keep my payment, and that they will take care of the buyer.

Just so you are aware, the GSP will be responsible for damaged caused during shipping but if the buyer says the item is otherwise SNAD you are responsible and have to pay for return shipping from Italy.

Thanks for all of the replies.
My main concern is it getting lost or otherwise held up in customs. I shipped a big ticket (for me) item to Canada around Christmas and was on pins and needles as it took 3-4 weeks to arrive. Seemed to linger in customs, where I imagin anything can and will happen.
