Has Anyone Ever filed a Report for theft and/or Mail Fraud?? How did it go?

I have a buyer who purchased a couple of razors from me. 3 feedbacks. They are from 1983. I stated they are unused.

She/He contacted me first via messages to ask the model #. I had to go buy a magnifying glass to read it, as it was raised lettering same color as the body at a perculiar location. She verified correct model number but now has photos and says there was hair all over it. That the plug part that goes into the razor is blue. Beings I had to buy a magnifying glass and this is stated within our ebay messages, I know for sure I used it to check the razors over. The photos she has are unbelievable.

Being a Christian, I could really care less what happens but know i need to file a police report and federal mail fraud report because this is a professional. The price is very low as I got them for free anyhow and obvioulsy, it would be easier just to refund her. No biggie but that would be participating in her crimes, abetting her.  Thanks for any advice or experience you can share with filing a federal mail fraud report & police report. She is in Northbrook, Illinois

Reply always with return for refund without going into anything.  You might have had a partal refund scam bug trying to get a reduction in price, you do not know why but if they were trying to do this they usually go away.

After looking at the listing I'm leaning more towards the buyer's perspective than the seller's. The item clearly was not new and there was very little information in the listing.

Yeah, I just looked at the listing. It is quite possible that the razors could have been used and that some hair could have been left in them if they were used. Would have listed that item as used not new. That is where the mistake happened.

Re: Has Anyone Ever filed a Report for theft and/or Mail Fraud?? How did it go?

People please read my posts.

Again, I am not going to comment again on what mail fraud is, or isn't. I've already explained that.

My question was regarding those who have filed a report but it appears a non-issue now anyhow.

Buyer won't bother me.

My Top Rated Seller badge came back today but listings I've had don't show it.

Guess I could end them and re-list to see what happens

We are moving, just bought a house, so it's likely I won't be selling much longer anyhow

Won't really. need the $$ so will just go thru the inventory I have.

Thanks alot, happy selling to you all 🙂

I cannot pay for return shipping if the item is as described. I only do that if it is my fault.

I do accept any returns though...but I guess she's/he's gone now anyhow.

Yes they are new, never been used. Remember their age, it's normal. Photos were sent to her prior to buying it. The case is also new, again, it has been aged.

I've sold razors before, and actually had one returned to me. I felt so bad, I thought I had examined it really close. Razors are VERY tricky.

I am open to always making mistakes. Especially regarding razors. But the photos she provided are not of my razors, period. That doesn't mean I won't refund her, I certainly will. I would even have agreed if she said they were in worse condition or not as good as expected. I am very easy with refunds.

My concern is the sophistication of it all. I do believe she is starting to learn how to become a professional but is in the beginning stages of it.  Sometimes you cannot really blame them though, everyone has the right to eat. Who knows, maybe she truly needs the money for basic needs.

Thanks for your note, I appreciate it

Re: Has Anyone Ever filed a Report for theft and/or Mail Fraud?? How did it go?

thank you retrose!! I will use that next time, it's perfect and non-confrontational

I shouldn't have listed these as new. They should've been listed as USED with a note they were examined and appear un-used. That is what I will do next time. If she had said they don't look right or whatever, I'd have approved the return.

I've never had anyone return an item to me, except maybe a few scammers. In fact I didn;t block one of them and they bought the same item from me but all looks ok. I was pretty nice to her even during the scamming process. Eventually I wont the case.

So far, the only two cases I've had open agaist me, I've won.

t's alot of trouble to expect people to return items and if there is even a hint that it could be my fault, I just apologize and refund.

Thanks for that advice. I am not worked up at all, really could care less. It's not much $$ at all.

Again, my concern is this person becoming a professional scammer. Nothing more.

I have one question though, I normally just refund. I've never told someone to open a case

then I'll refund. Is there some advantage to that? just curious

Wise post, thanks

Wow I just saw there is a whole nother page of comments.

We are signing documents to buy a house and I need to get back to work.  So I am not ignoring all of you but am going to skip the 3rd page of responses. My next 18.5 hr shift begins soon.

Buyer is gone anyhow

Thanks everyone for your help

No, just no.

You should be a Christian, admit your mistake, apologize to the buyer and accept the return. They were USED. You can lie to yourself all you want, but we can see that they were used.

I think what would settle this for me if I saw the photo she sent.

No it isnt. It was new in 1983 - not 1883. If it was really a new item it should have packaging in there that would show that - even if someone had opened it up for inspection and put it back in the box afterward. Where is the retail box? Where is the plastic bagging that the parts would have been in? Where is the warranty postcard? Where is the tie wrap on the power cord? Why is there an older razor in the set when it only came with one? There is nothing in the photo resembling a brand new product.

You seem to be getting more and more evasive and now you are announcing that you are too busy to read page 3 of this thread? Okay but the point remains that if you simply documented it better in the first place then this may not have happened at all. There is no international ring of ladies razor scammers out there who are scamming 34 year old razors for a secret black market someplace. Just take it back for a refund and move on. Your imagination is getting away from you.

The OP claims she made the buyer go away with threats to call the police for theft and fraud...I wonder how that's REALLY going to work out in the end...

Listing an item as better than it really is can be costly to the seller.
