To start, the reason I feel that eBay's current war on hand sanitizer is wrong is because they are taking away people's ability to get the products that they desperately need. With most sources dried up, eBay was was the last hope for a lot of people.
And before you all go regurgitating eBay's righteous efforts to thwart price gougers, they could have simply set up a process for people to report price gouging. THAT would keep the vast majority of sellers in check.
I was selling a lot of scented Hand Sanitizers in the 1 ounce Pocketbac style. I actually DROPPED my prices when this all happened so that people could get what they needed. But i do understand if some sellers wanted a small price increase as the laws of supply and demand take effect.
Now I am ok with all my sanitizer listings being removed. I have many other listings to help compensate, and I have been loyal to the eBay community for more than 20 years. I am simply trying to suggest that there may have been an alternate course of action that could have been taken.
Lastly, I am sure that when this is all over, eBay will remove the ban on those categories.
Until then, everyone stay healthy. And like a meme I saw on Facebook...constantly wash your hands as if you just handled chilipeppers and need to put your contacts in. Lol

Yes, Luckythewinner is right ...
At least the Walmart store in Concord, New Hampshire, I just returned home from.
They had about 20 8 oz(?) bottles of hand sanitizer ... I bought 4 of them (2 for me/one for work, one for home, and 2 for my daughter) ..... and 2 large Lysol(?) wipes ....
...... absolutely NO shortage of toilet paper either.
..... and plenty of bottled household cleaners, antibacterial. Got one bottle liquid Lysol too.
Also, they were stocking shelves when I got there; hardly any customers in the store; perhaps they have more of these items to put out, I don't know.
I got there when they opened at 6 am. Have been home sick for a few days, almost fine now, thought I would probably be too late to get the items I purchased; but no, I was fortunate.
While I was getting the hand sanitizer, someone came up after me and just got one. Didn't grab them all to sell on Ebay !!

@magbenv0 wrote:Have a question for you. Am thinking of making hand sanitizer for the three people in my life who are in their 80s&90s,JIC they'd like some(not a topic we discuss-too stressful). Other then the two main ingredients, anything else I could/should possibly add in for them? At that age, your skin tends to be incredibly sensitive,so don't want to overdo it. Thanks.🌼
Give them baby wipes instead. While they're not "sanitizing" (no alcohol) they are germicidal and much kinder to sensitive skin.

Antibacterial will not help against viruses, washing with any soap and water is good. I found that antibacterial soaps are more drying than regular ones.
My skin hates hand sanitizers - I use them once and then have itchy palms for 2 days.

Or Gin Gimlets a wonderful use of a quality GIN.
Didn’t they say alcoholic drinks don’t have enough alcoholic % to kill germs?
Lucky ND which is a few miles from me still sells Everclear, that is 180 proof or 90% alcohol...

found online on news sites:
re: vinegar
"Vinegar... is about 5 per cent acetic acid. The acid kills bacteria and viruses, by chemically changing the proteins and fats that make up these nasties and destroying their cell structures."
I think viruses are sometimes hard to kill, because they aren't even 'alive' in the traditional sense.
"I don't think viruses qualify as being alive. They are, in essence, inert unless they come into contact with a living cell," Amesh Adalja, an infectious disease physician from the Johns Hopkins Centre"

Price gouging is a crime. One person sells hand sanitizer for $50 on ebay, and reported or not, a crime has been committed.
There are 50 states. That's 50 Attorney's General who I have no doubt would love to get tough on people who use people's fear and desperation against them in a pandemic for profit. Speaking of making an example...remember Napster? I barely do...
If I were ebay, I would run from any potential criminal litigation like it were the plague, so to speak. If I were ebay and a state decided to go after an ebay seller for price gouging and named the company in the criminal complaint, I would really, really want to be able to say "we shut down sales of x, y, and z products in response to concerns over price gouging" rather than "we asked people to report criminal behavior for which we are potentially legally exposed after it occurred".
It’s only a crime if government declares state of emergency. So right now only California and New York. Everywhere else it’s supply and demand. You can argue it’s unethical, yeah but not illegal. If eBay was not a California based company I doubt they would give a flying pigeon about it since they would be swimming in money.

My favorite hand sanitizer alternative that I've found so far--- Natural Antibacterial Oregano Bar Soap(about $10tho). Also good for fungus(?). Don't know if anyone on eBay sells it,was searching for natural products elsewhere. Anyone ever tried it?

eBay DID try asking sellers to report gouging on Feb 28, then they resorted to the ban on March 5 so apparently the reporting system wasn't working out. You can check the two Announcements, just click on the link at the bottom of the page.
There are some great memes re: "wash your hands as if": As if you just ate a bag of Cheetos and now you're going to crochet with pure-white yarn. As If you got a club stamp that you don't want your mom to see...
But nothing teaches you more than putting contacts in after handling jalapenos or habanero peppers ........... but you need to do more than wash for 20 seconds ........
