HELP! Techinical question about variations listings.

Sorry, I wasn't sure if I should list this in "selling" or "shipping".

I called customer service today. She steered me to the page/screen, but never really talked me through the proceedure.

I have a variations listing for "Filipinos" biscuits. They come in dark chocolate, milk chocolate and white chocolate. Shipping is $4 for the first package, $2 for each additional package.  If you check out with one of each flavor, it wants to charge you $12 shipping instead of $8 shipping.  I want to fix that. Can anyone talk me through it?

I also sell different flavors/kinds of Dole pineapple candy. Those are individual listings.  Shipping on my Dole candy is $5 for the first package, $4 for each additional. Is there any way humanly  possible to make it so is they buy different typs/flavors of Dole candy it will charge them the correct (discounted) shipping rate?

Thank you for your help.

Once you have the shipping policy set up, when you do the listing, select that policy in the shipping section of the listing.

@inhawaii

You should be able to set up a shipping policy for it?

When you set it up, it'll ask for the basic shipping charge and then what you want to charge for each additional item.

There used to be a way to "group" items you wanted treated the same way........ie $4 for lst item 50c for  additional items for listings: a,b,c ,.   I think now they want you to use the promotional manager stuff to discount.......look there and see if there aren't some examples........

HELP! Techinical question about variations listings.

I can't believe this isn't something that sellers aren't screaming to ebay about.

In my opinion, a variations listing shouldn't count a variation as a diffent/sperate item when calculating shipping.

A variations listing for T-shirts. $5 S&H for the first shirt, $1 for each additional.

You buy 1 red shirt, 1 white shirt and 1 blue shirt. Shipping should be $7 not $15. Should this be the default/standard?

Just a couple points.   Variations is not available for all categories.  I do not know if the one you are using is valid or not but when you start a new listing the option for variations is just below the title area.  You should see an option to add variation there.  If you do not,  it probably is not available for that category.

You can set up combined shipping discounts for categories of items so if a buyer buys different items from the same category, it will calculate it correctly.  If you have different rates for the same category, it will charge the highest rate first and then what ever the discounted amount you have set up for that listing.

What you are trying to do is very complicated and I would advice you to simplify your shipping rates to be the same in the same categories if you want to make this work correctly.  You can offset the cost difference but adjusting the prices for same categories of items to reflect the same profit margins.  It really is about making it as easy to follow for the buyer as possible.

I hope that helps?

Good Luck Selling!

HELP! Techinical question about variations listings.

I'd do a separate listing for the 3 box choice, then you can offer a variation on the 3 boxes and make the shipping correct.

I have on many occasions. It's not the way the system is built and there are no current plans to change it that we've been made aware of.

This is your second post about this?

Safe yourself the concern over this and just set your pricing to be include shipping AKA free shipping.  Buyer's like it and it can be a good selling point.  You don't have to worry about combined shipping or Ebay's program working correctly.  Less headache for you and buyers tend to like free shipping.  Just a thought to consider.

Shipping Policies will not fix the issue you're dealing with. It will only combine same variations or same listing. It will not combine different variations or different listings.

Another poster had a good idea to set up a listing for the three-pack, or another poster who said to open a store and create a promotion. They have a store that's only $5/month now (anyone know if the starter store includes the promotions feature?)

Rolling the price into the item and offering free shipping is also a good idea but not if it prices you out of the market - you can run a test to see if people will still buy at the appearance of a higher price.
