Based on your inventory (nice collection) i would say don't bother with using PL. It is a competitive category but many within that category have no clue and misrepresent what they sell often. Especially those who sell glass (lens) and don't bother describing scratches or defects that can make them worthless. I did not look through each individual listing but if your stuff is clean, accurate and works, I would price it at the top of the market without PL.

Promoted listings is a seller choice so I would not exactly call it a "greedy promoted listing standard". I don't utilize PL but for the type of items I sell there is really no need to. A lot of it depends on what you are selling but in a highly competitive category the margins are probably slim anyway due to competition and using a high PL rate may price your items out of the market place if you are incorporating the PL costs into your pricing model. There is really no one right answer to your question there are simply too many individual variables from seller to seller.

It's optional. It's only 'greedy' if you let it be.

Your option is to use Promoted Listings or figure a way to promote your items yourself. The former costs money the later takes time.

If you find these costs to be "greedy" simply don't purchase them. Easy.

The Treasury Department has an option to allow you to voluntarily pay money to the government to reduce the public debt.
So in theory, you could sell your house, cash in all your retirement, and empty your savings and donate it all to the government and end up in poverty.
Although that is an option available to me, I personally would not choose to do it.

Exactly. If 12 plus extra percent was mandatory I would close my account as I am not one of those sellers who could profit from that high of a percentage based on the costs of my goods, nor the volume of sales that that would create on this website.

Greedy promoted listings standard? You choose to use it, you choose how much you want to pay, so how it eBay being greedy when you apparently selected 4%.
If you don't want to use it, then don't. It's not a requirement.

As long as they have sellers willing to pay those %, they are going to keep going up.

Optikka, as has been concisely stated, promo is voluntary. Were it mandatory, you might have a valid point. I state MIGHT, as you would still be able to exercise your option to leave the platform.
