In my buyer preferences I have a block on buyers with multiple unpaid items strikes. In 20 years of selling it's never been an issue; if anyone tried to buy something and was blocked they've never complained. This morning I got a very snippy email saying that they didn't know who I got my information from but they have NEVER had a strike and they only buy from sellers with CORRECT information (paraphrased of course...but the capitalization is all them).
I checked into the blocked bidder log and sure enough they were on there twice so they were blocked by my preferences. Is it possible they don't know they have strikes? I've never had one as a buyer so I don't know, but does eBay not inform buyers when they get a strike? Or is it possibly a mistake and they are right?
It was a blessing in disguise, though - I checked their feedback left for others and there were a lot of negatives in the past year. I put them on my blocked list just to make sure. They seem really angry and I don't want to deal with that lol.

Yes - dont respond to them in any way. Now that they are on your BBL their messages should be blocked from reaching you if you have set that preference. I think the message block only takes effect after 30 days from your last interaction or sale but I dont know if that includes an unsolicited message TO you that you did not respond to. Hopefully he will be blocked right away if you do not answer his message.
From what I see in my selling account the Buyer requirements activity log will only show you rejections based on the buyers Unpaid count. I dont know what other conditions might also cause a rejection but Unpaids are the only ones I have seen on that page.
It sounds like everything functioned properly in your case to keep an unwanted deadbeat from interfering in your sales. I will sometimes let someone in using the Exemptions page if they ask nicely or their record doesnt show anything too awful but that is kind of rare. People with too many Unpaids generally know darn well why they are getting blocked.

Frankly, it sounds like someone finally set their buyer blocks for non-payers and this one got caught. Of course, 'the best defense is a good offense', so naturally they NEVER did anything like not paying.

Our messages are usually very innocent. "It seems I'm unable to offer on your items can you check on it?" or "Why did you block me? I only sent you 4 ridiculous lowball offers while insulting your children."

If the buyer thinks eBay is mistaken, then they need to take it up with customer service.
i would have done the same in your shoes. If they are already upset and snippy, they don’t have much to recommend them as a trading partner.
That said, it is possible to put them on the exemption list to enable them to bypass the block and buy the item. This customer may not be aware that is a possibility. If you want the sale, that is an option. I hate blocking someone who has expressed interest in my item .

I definitely did not and will not respond to them. They seemed personally insulted that they were blocked as thought it was my fault - the "I don't know where you got your information" just blew me away lol.

All the correct thing to do in such a situation.
See why they were blocked:
check em out and then if warrants on the BBL....

Making it your problem is part of the aggressive communication playbook. I wouldn't do business with this person, either.

It's absolutely possible they don't know they had UPI's, people are very forgetful & don't read & IDK that Ebay even notifies them. I see all the time on the Buyer board, buyers claiming they've never left a bad FB & then I go look & there are sometimes MANY bad FB left. People have short memories.
Just move on or if you want to sell to them, you can exempt them, but it sounds like you don't want to.
I must say I don't get their comment about where you got your info from, I've never known Ebay to tell them WHY they are blocked.

I would ignore them.
I actually have about 300+ block buyers on my account I have done myself and never unblocked the.

Ayup. It's one of those common phrases that come up when someone is floundering around for something to say, but hasn't got any concrete arguments to make in their favor.

You can never have too many. I know some people even exchange block lists with other sellers in their category.

Exactly. Just bluster.

I have to file that for future use:
“The Aggressive Communication Playbook.”
Is the sequel coming out any time soon?

Or there are people like me.
Empty.
Someone else’s problem buyer may not be mine. Moreover, I don’t know the sellers any more than the buyers. Why should I take a stranger’s word to turn away a paying customer?
I do have the unpaid item block in place, though.
