I am pretty sure that I know the answer to this, but hope I'm wrong. Is there any way to indicate that I don't want Ebay to automatically relist my auctions? I believe that Ebay is doing this to increase fees from listing over the allowed number of free listings. I am now cancelling my listings ahead of the time that they are due to relist. Sometimes I do this when I have someone watching my listing, so possibility causing me to miss a sale. But, at least, I still have some control over my BIN's.

You're correct in that there's nothing you can do to make the GTC listings stop rolling over. Yes, we pretty much all agree it's so they can pocket more fee income from the sellers they "love" so much. Good job on cancelling before they roll over. It's a pain in the budinsky but worth our time. It also feels horrid to cancel with 5 watchers just 30 minutes before a roll over like I just did. But crimony, if they really wanted it, they should have bought before the last flipping day! Best of luck to you on many sales before the 30th day.

I know your title says your question is about GTC listings, but your first question is about auctions.
On Ebay there are now only two types of listings. Auctions or GTC.
Auctions can be relisted automatically if you check the box during set up to allow for this function. But it isn't something you have to do. Be careful if you are using the QLT [quick list tool] as it can sometimes do things to your listing and not give you the option to change it. The ALF [advanced listing form] gives you your options and I personally like it much better.
If you spend a little time looking at the 100's of threads that have happened regarding the March 18th change to fixed price listings all now being GTC, you would find that the vast majority of the sellers that are having difficulty with this change, for whatever reasons they may have, are sellers that do not currently pay any listing fees. The purposely stay within their monthly allotment of free listings, so no fees are paid to Ebay.
If a seller is doing that, then even when their GTCs renew, those sellers still will not be paying any listing fees. So in reality, most sellers would be just fine in regards to paying or not paying additional fees.
Where it gets more complicated for many sellers is for those that like to rotate their stock from month to month. The GTC rule makes this rather complicated to do moving forward.
You still have control over your listings. Just in a different way than you are use to. If you need a few more listings to work with each month so that you are comfortable in allowing your listings to stay until sold, you might consider a Starter Store. You gain another 50 free listings and the cost is only 4.95 per month. Just a thought to consider.

If it is important to you to retain your watchers, then you need to let the listing renew under GTC. eBay now allows sellers to send offers to watchers. I would consider using this feature to find out how serious a watcher is?
There are a few third party listing tools that do have a feature that will end your listings on a schedule before they renew.
Good Luck Selling!

My brother lists on his phone and this listing form automatically relists auctions 8 times in a row. I saw the check box on my desktop using the advanced listing form.

Really? When stores used to have the function to see where traffic came from, I had a very high percentage of potential buyers coming in from off site.
You may not start at Google, but many do.
Now let’s discuss this theory that a conference table of execs plotted avariciously in the wee hours of the night, cackling and rubbing their hands together.... “hey, let’s not bother with a robust functional site, let’s just steal from our users instead and pretend it’s for their own good. Muwahaha!”
Yeah, that happened. 🙄

No it doesn’t - I list on my phone too.
The form has the offer but the default is an empty box. You have to actively choose the 8 possible relists.

Your auctions don't automatically relist; your GTC listings do. What has changed is that there are no longer any 30-day auctions; anything longer than 10 days is a GTC.

There has never been auctions for up to 30 days. The max has always been 10 days.
We now have two types of listings Auctions which can, as they always have been, ran for 3, 7 or 10 days. And Fixed Price listings that can ONLY be ran as GTC.
And YES auctions CAN auto relist for up to 8 times if the seller is using the QLT.
From the rules.
Auction style listings:
Automatic relisting is available in most categories, but there are some exclusions (see below). If your item doesn't sell after 8 relists, it will appear in your unsold items.
We charge an insertion fee (or count it as a zero insertion fee listing) for the original auction-style listing. If you're a non-business seller, the automatic relists are free. If you're selling on eBay as a business, we charge an insertion fee (or count it as a zero insertion fee listing ) each time the item is relisted.

Check box on desktop with the advanced form allowed my wife's account to relist auctions 2 times automatically with no fee for the relists. Jumped right on that one. 30 days for the price of 10.

I don't thing "feeling sorry" for watchers is the correct outlook. You have no idea how many are actual potential customers or competitors watching the listing. Just because they are a seller doesn't mean they are a competitor. I buy stuff on Ebay all the time and I watch listings all the time. It helps me compare and decide which item I want.
You can close a listing whenever you want. But instead of doing a Sell Similar when you want to bring it back up on listings with watchers when it closed, try Relist instead. On the first time you do that from a listing, the watchers will get notified that the item is listed again. That may or may not get you a sale, but it very well could.
