GoDaddy retiring online bookkeeping

Just got the following email from GoDaddy.  Of course, that is the service I use.  I hate change.

Online Bookkeeping will retire in 30 days.

After much consideration, we've made the decision to discontinue Online Bookkeeping on June 18, 2022. At that time, the Online Bookkeeping tool will stop importing transactions from your connected channels and your existing data will be archived. To provide you with the best possible experience going forward, we've partnered with Intuit to offer you a special discount on QuickBooks Online.

You have until September 30 to download your Online Bookkeeping content. You can either move your data to QuickBooks using our migration tool or export your .csv file and import it to another accounting platform. You'll receive a prorated return for any time remaining on your term.

We appreciate your business and are here to help make your transition as smooth as possible.

Anyone have experience with QuickBooks, good or bad?

@dhbookds

LOL!! that is the last place I would want to find myself.....(and apparently the last place Godaddy wants to be...).

I wonder if eBay's spreadsheet downloads are any help? The one that can be found in Seller Hub > Payments > Reports is probably the best starting point for entering data into a spreadsheet accounting program.

Re: GoDaddy retiring online bookkeeping

@shipscript  For a couple of the platforms I sell on I just download csv files and collate them in Excel.  It's possible to do with eBay as well and I've actually had to, though their spreadsheets need a lot of cleaning up.

@chapeau-noir Are the CSV files from seller hub > payments > reports suitable for your task? I selected this report because it can cover an entire calendar year or fiscal year, as specified for the download process. The report has some columns that can be confusing, but the data appears to be there. Obviously, the Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) must be manually entered by the seller.

The reporting has changed a tad (I think) since I did this the year before last (when I went into managed payments and had 6 months of earnings missing from Godaddy), but they were suitable, yes.  I stripped out info that I didn't need and recolumned (is that a word?) everything so it was close to the downloaded reports I got from Posh and Mercari and I could combine them.

I keep inventory and expenses, mileage, travel expenses and damaged-out/purged items on another spreadsheet.  Then mash them all together and there's my taxes.  Godaddy was a nice little shortcut because I could easy pull reports for state taxes and any expenses through Paypal I could define as work or personal.

I think I've talked myself into just using spreadsheets after all lol.   I'd do them quarterly - doing a whole year's worth was kind of a pain, so flexible reports are good.

ETA:  Using Quickbooks which may only link to eBay wouldn't really work that well as I have four other websites. Plus, after the intro is done, it's $25/month and I'm a real nickle and dime seller.  If I were still full time I would definitely consider QB.  Reaching way back into the dusty vaults of my mind, I seem to recall other reports being able to be reformatted as .QBW files and calculated, but I might be mistaken.

Re: GoDaddy retiring online bookkeeping

This is just pathetic. I cannot make heads or tails out of this system so far. I am going to have to talk to a real person tommorow to get this thing organized. Terrible un user friendly design. I have a massive headache at this point and if I cannot get someone to help me from Intuit I am totally unable to navigate through this system.

@vintagecraze50  There are lots of tutorials on YouTube - that's what I would do.  Start with an introductory and just pace along.  Take some aspirin and rest your head, first.

Re: GoDaddy retiring online bookkeeping

So far I cannot use this. Have no idea how to navigate through this terribly complicated bookeeping service. I hope to God that I can get in touch with a live on the phone customer service person to help me understand how to categorize all these entries. On top of this I could not get the Ebay app to synch with safari since I use an IPad. I downloaded Google chrome they said that.s the only place to get the ebay app to synch. I re synched it but I am still not sure it is working.

Re: GoDaddy retiring online bookkeeping

Ok and thanks for those nice encouraging words. Man, this is so different from GoDaddy. I am going to look at some of the tutorials on YouTube and really at this point if I do not get somebody on the phone tommorow to help I think I am going to be lost with this for a bit.

Right now I would like to fire the person who decided to cut the GoDaddy Bookeeping service. What a hassle.

Re: GoDaddy retiring online bookkeeping

@vintagecraze50  When I had to learn Excel all over again, and in a hurry, for my data mining job (I hadn't used it since the...what...mid-90s and it was completely different)  I learnt it with some YouTube tutorials - I had no time to waste, either as I absolutely had to begin producing data or not get paid.  I pretended that I knew NOTHING about Excel and started right from the beginning, and watched more than one just to make sure I had complete understanding before I went into the intermediate phase.

I'd get back to the beginning and start with the basic overview and approach it that way and just step through it.  You can do this, I have absolutely no doubt, just not in a frustrated state.

Re: GoDaddy retiring online bookkeeping

When I started with GoDaddy I had very very few problems understanding the set up and got it together within an hour. I have been on this computer for 4 hours trying to figure this system out so far.  Maybe after about 6 hours tommorow I might be ale to figure this out with support.

AGAIN, many thanks for your support. I will post again on this here after I work on it more tomorrow. And I hope to be able to help anyone else going through this transition on here.

Re: GoDaddy retiring online bookkeeping

My goodness, that sounds frustrating!  I'd really hoped that the eBay Connector app would be easier to use and more accurate.

I hope you and your wife can get things sorted out regarding the March 4 cut-off.  If you have the time and inclination, please post an update here.

Re: GoDaddy retiring online bookkeeping

This morning I looked and my ebay account is not synched again. It says lost connection. There is something very peculiar here when you are using an IPad I think, not sure. Upthread I was told by Quickbooks that you have to connect with Google not Safari. I tried that getting Google app on my ipad and processed the whole thing on ebay and Inuit on Google and still NO Connect to ebay.
