Incredibly on point follow-up to my post: after I submitted I was asked if I wanted to do a survey about my eBay experience. I filled out the survey and then, in response to the last question, I wrote a very detailed description of the problems I've been having. I then hit submit, only to have my description rejected for being over the 500 character limit. Most website would mention that limit in advance and/or have something that warns you when you're going over it (change in font color, pop-up message, etc.), but not eBay! Guess they hadn't developed that technology 15 years ago when the site was last updated.
