I have only been a buyer on eBay since joining 20 years ago. I recently considered selling a few desktop computers. More to find a good home for them with folks who appreciate the old Mac Pro computers than to make money. After coming here and seeing some of the ugly experiences described by sellers, I have decided that it's not worth it. These computers weigh over 40 pounds. It would be very annoying to ship one and then have the buyer get buyer's remorse and make problems. One thing that came out of considering selling is that I have gained a greater appreciation for sellers and all they must deal with.

Yup. Don't do it. You'll likely be targeted with electronics if you use a rather new account.

Try cash on collection no postage, or a yard sale as you American's say.

You can always do a local pick up sale, that way the prospective buyer can check them out before you are paid.

You're never going to get an accurate picture of selling here by reading these boards because people come here with their problems for some help. Few come here to talk about how great sales are.
Having said that, I periodically sell PCs here and have had no trouble. The difficulty is with the costs of packing and safely shipping equipment like that - it's just too expensive. I'd also go locally.

Selling PCs is probably not for new sellers who wear a kick me sign. And as a new seller you have reached the correct conclusion.
Yes, this forum draws disgruntled sellers, probably in greater proportions than exists in the entire seller community, but big ticket electronics and new sellers is a poor combination.

easy answer!
pick-up only / pay then
You know that if you have been for 20 years.

A pick-up only sale is going to be someone who is local to you. Don't give eBay 15% of your sale when there are ways to sell local for free. A local person who wants what you have will find it.

This is one of the more shouty, complaining selling site forums I've ever been on.

That's right. Better to sell desktop computers locally. There are several on-line platforms where you can advertise them or even if you leave them somewhere on consignment, you still will be ahead.

I would have to be getting $300 and up on an item like that to risk $50 to $70 on a UPS Ground shipment. (And not having any recent inventory investment in the item)

Most of the horror stories I read here are by those who don't brush up on the Terms of Service they agreed to when they started selling and they thought they could just " wing it" and then blame EBay, their buyers, and everyone and anyone else when they got bruised.
There are plenty of success stories by those who keep up with the current terms, roll with the changes and don't get discouraged by a few bumps in the road.
