Getting scammed by a buyer how do I proceed?

Hoping someone can help me here, I sold an older Lenovo laptop on eBay and bought a new charger for it and everything. 2 people were winning the bid with very high reviews and of course at the very last second someone came in and won it who had a much lower score than the other two.

First thing he does is message me saying there better not be any "white spots" on the screen. Not sure if he was making a perverted joke or talking about dead pixels but I told him no the screen was fine just dusty.

I sent it off and sure enough a few days went past and now he is messaging me again saying I sent the laptop without a charger and the battery is bad. I included the charger but I didn't take a pic of it in the box when I mailed it out but I know for a fact I included it since I don't stock Lenovo products ever and I don't have the charger anywhere in my work area. 2nd I included a screen shot of the computer's self test showing the battery was fine and a screen shot from Windows showing the battery could hold a charge for 2 hours.

How should I proceed with this?

Tell him... I'm sorry you're not satisfied with your purchase, please return the item for a full refund.  Say nothing else.

I got robbed, too.  eBay was no help.  I stopped selling on eBay.

Re: Getting scammed by a buyer how do I proceed?

You have to accept the return, according to ebay's MBG, if they  file 'not  as described'.  Tell the buyer to file with ebay to return for full refund.  Added dialogue is seldom useful in these cases.  Accept the return and make sure a shipping label is sent.  Wait for the return.  IF you get the item back, as sent, refund.  If something different comes back, then you get to file complaints with: IC3, USPS Postal Inspectors for mail fraud, your police department and the buyer's police department.  IF ebay has refunded, file an appeal with all the case file numbers.

Bottom line, it sounds like a scam and a buyer exchanging their bad item for your good item.  High possibility you will be out the item and money, but you really should do all the filing of complaints because the more reports, filed by more sellers is the only way anything will ever be done to curtail these buyers.

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

The foolishness of one's actions or words is determined by the number of witnesses.

Ok I asked him to return it and he says he cannot because he doesn't live in the US and it would be too expensive for him to send it back and wants me to buy him a new battery and charger

I dont understand this I put in my profile to sell to people in the US only and I even put that in the listing shipping to US only.

Re: Getting scammed by a buyer how do I proceed?

Where did you ship the computer? If the USA your obligation would be a return label from the ship to ( USA address you send it to) back to you, it is up to the buyer to get it back to you.  The return label provided by ebay will have the ship from address as the address you shipped to and return address as your address.  If you shipped outside the USA you would have to get them a return label out of your pocket.

Above all make sure he raises a claim through Ebay, sending or doing anything without a claim will cause issues later ( if you send stuff he can file a claim after and your out more) plus you have several options on the claim such as offering a partial refund ( for the customer to buy their own battery and charger as an example)

1.  If you will return to that listing and look at the shipping details, you will see that, according to that information, you DO ship to many other countries.

2. Possibly that buyer uses a freight forwarder in the US.

3. If/when a buyer opens an item not as described case in the Resolution Center, you, the seller, will be required to either send him a prepaid shipping label or to reimburse him in advance for the cost of return shipping.

Ok that is really weird I setup in my preferences a while ago to do US only shipping all my other old listings are US only, I have no idea how that one is different.  Either way I shipped it to a location in Delaware which is probably where it was forwarded

Tagging on.   Whenever a buyer does the "There better not"     Or "You better not"   thing with me,    I cancel, refund,  block.

Lots of "reshipper" services in Delaware.  Using that US address allows buyers to purchase items that do not offer international shipping.  You do not need to do anything until the buyer files for a "not as described" return.  At that point you can accept, and issue the label from the US reshipper address back to you.

Of course they don't want that, and likely why they have not filed with eBay.  Right now they are just "tree shaking" to see if you will front them some $$$$ for their "unhappiness".

Worst case, if they do file, they will simply purchase a cheap item in the US online, have whatever it is sent to you, and use that delivery confirmation number to satisfy their proof of return to you.  If that should happen, it is going to be a tough procedure to convince ebay of this.  It is uncertain at this point if ebay will consider this faulty return "part of doing business on the net" AKA "too bad to be you".

Me, too! I instantly cancel a sale if I get any messages like that. Then I block them.
