Getting part of the shipping costs is crazy.

I don't think they should be getting a percentage of the shipping costs. It already is at what it costs and sometimes it costs even more than what you think it is supposed to. They are getting greedy. Also, there are times when a package can be mailed cheaper in an envelope that is flat and you don't get a tracking number and then you lose a percentage of there being a top seller, which is crap.

You completely missed the point I was making.  I'm not comparing paying a % on $30+10 in relation to someone who wants $40.  I'm talking about eBay taking a % for providing no service.  If someone chooses to give free shipping & have to pay a FVF on the total $40, that is not my problem.  The $10 I charge for S/H is fully used on mailing the item(s). Is that always the case or is your actual postage sometimes less than what the buyer paid? I have found that the actual postage is often less than what eBay projected or what the buyer paid. EBay is probably NOT going to change the way it applies fees to the postage so if you are that concerned about it simply add a handing charge to your postage cost to cover the eBay FVF's on the shipping that way like the shipping cost the buyer is paying the FVF's on the shipping not you.   It does not go into my pocket so why should I have to give some of it to eBay?  They do nothing to earn it.  When sellers tried to scam their way out of fees by selling for $1 & charging $30 for S/H, they should have been punished.  The course of action eBay took is to punish everyone.  Make everyone pay.

These eBay apologists who believe eBay should be able to do whatever it wants have completely missed the point.

Sure, over a decade ago some people gamed the system through inflated shipping - so eBay should have solved THAT problem by keeping shipping fees honest.

It’s five for regulars sellers who deal in bulk to rationalize fees of a few cents, but those of us who fall for eBays bait about selling off what we don’t use any more get screwed because nobody in their right mind would believe this is an ethical and legal practice.

I just sold a heavy item that cost $250 to ship….so eBay charges me almost a $50 additional final value fee purely for the shipping, on top of what I sold? This is fraud. 

Should I have risk the sale to tell the buyer, “sorry, eBay screws people over on bogus fees, yeah, shipping us only $250, yeah… we agreed on a fair price, but now you need to come up with more money so eBay can scam us….?”

I hope there is a class action suit against eBay. ‘

Just  because it it their “policy” doesn’t make it less fraudulent.

The full %13.25 charge on an unavoidable service provided by another entity (shipping) that beaters gave zero control over is extortion by way if exploiting their monopoly.

  The shipping and handling price the buyer paid is what you are charged.  It can a separate line item or embedded in  the total selling price.  How  you handle the extra cost is up to you  and needs to be done prior to the sale.

BTW it is not a good idea  to change a carrier or carrier services after the sale has  been finalized  (e.g. from priority main to  first  class)

They didn't say eBay should get nothing. They already collect final value fees on the item.
