Since Ebay started "good until cancelled" I have been cancelling all my listings the night before they end and then relisting them the next day. Sales haven't be great but somewhat steady. As all the sellers that sell collectibles and vintage items sales have slowed considerably in the last couple of years. This month I forgot to do that and sales have pretty much come to a halt. From what I hear and read the longer an item is listed the less visibility Ebay gives it. I hope the new CEO can fix things but I am hearing rumblings about Amazon buying Ebay. I don't like government intervention but in this case I would say that needs to be stopped under anti trust laws. Amazon already dictates what happens in online selling as is demonstrated by Ebay wanting to copy Amazon on so many things.

Where exactly are you hearing these "rumblings"?
There has been a few stories mostly coming from Forbes, this is the one that set off the recent chatter.

I don't have any experience with the writer, it's always hard to tell is they are doing serious and credible analysis or just trying to pump one or both stocks.
Personally I'm skeptical of this possible deal but there is some logic to it. Amazon has growth but no profits (in the Marketplace division) while eBay has profits but no growth.

With the less visibility and bottleneck of their search results you have to be using promoted listings. Promoted listings does not just give you extra visibility in search results. When buyers view items eBay will include your item in the suggestions towards the end of the page. Not only do I get good sales from my older items but new items sell through promoted which means buyers are not just scrolling through search results but clicking to view similar items after viewing other listings.

I sell mostly Ford Model T parts, yes some items don't sell well. I have noticed, not just car part but other item, that with a 7 day auction most people don't buy, look or save till the last day. So depending on how they are viewing the listings, newest or oldest first, the ones in the middle don't get viewed much. I also sell some model train stuff and there have been a few times that the only way to see if I was getting any views was to look at my selling list. I do not have a store, just selling a few things here and there to make ends meet.

What does a privately owned company have to do with socialism? Capitalism is almost the direct opposite of socialism. eBay is the epitome of capitalism.Ebay has the right to set their own rules within the law. People have the right to use the service or not.
I've noticed that when capitalism doesn't act as people would like it to, it gets called socialism.

Artwork is tough on ebay because people can just take your photos of the artwork and not have to pay. The free-for-all grab of seller photos is still outrageous to me. Requiring that we sign over our intellectual property as a condition of use is just insane to me. But, no choice if selling here. You will be assimilated; resistance is futile. LOL.

I would like GTC to go back to being an option and giving choice back to sellers. I usually close out my listing within 48 hours of the 30 days and then depending upon the item, the season, and the number of remaining free listing I make a decision when to relist. I have found that waiting two months to relist the oddball things I sell helps a tad.
I think that Alibaba is a better match to buy Ebay.
And government is in and of itself a form of intervention. There is no free market, that is a myth. The only question is for whose benefit is the government intervening. Cui bono? If you are happy with those with capital controlling the money and how much you get then so be it.

Rumors are just that and this one is not one I'd be taking very seriously...

agreed...
sellers in collectibles/toys/hobby items for years have been going strong, and using auctions seems to still be a great way to go...
