Gee whiz! There is now a new option here on eBay seller board to “Friend” a member!

I was just reading this board and went to look at the items for sale of the person posting the discussion and saw an option to friend the person.

 I never ever saw that option on eBay before.

Is eBay trying to become like Facebook now?

Can you post a screenshot?  I don't see that option when I visit your listings or your seller page.

I saw that yesterday. When I click on your name here I see an option to send a message or friend. Do you want me to click on friend and see what happens?

I clicked on friend and it said added to my contacts.........lol...........I don't know what contacts mean.......on ebay

I also found the ignore button while I was there. Haven't participated in a forum for a long time, I forgot about the ignore feature.

Do you get the option to "unfriend".

If there is I can see "friend" being popular solely for the satisfaction of being able to "unfriend".😀

I clicked it! Yes, there is an unfriend button once you friend someone.

Look at your profile page. You should now have a new section called My Friends with all your newly clicked on friends. Now sure what you can do with that if you click on their name in the My Friends section.

Yeh I friended some one to see what it was then I unfriended them.

I can see it now, first thing you do is check your friend list everyday. 😂

Put all the regulars on your friend list then when they respond with something you don't like go unfriend them.😂

Now I see "my friends" on my about me page...........one is someone dated 4/2023...........and I know hasn't posted here in a yr or so............so this isn't, apparently, something new........

Ah, ok...  I thought you were referring to our seller home pages, where our listings are.

My first association upon seeing this is that famous old quip:

"I'm from the government and am here to help."

Heaven only knows what sort of data can be collected with such a feature.  And now that eBay is cozying up to a certain large totalitarian state on the other side of the Pacific Ocean, I'd be doubly cautious.  (Sorry, it's a bad habit, I know.)

I think I'll stick to "send a message."
