When your listing renews with GTC it even changes the listing date.  It doesn't do it on all of them, it is random.  I have found it several times on my items.

drusalina,

I think I had read quite a while ago that Pinterest had changed how it treated links to ebay listings. I'm not sure that has anything to do with the Item Number/URL, I have a GTC listing turning over in less than an hour....I will compare the ID number at present to the number later.

Thanks .  I wish I knew what the Pinterest - eBay agreement is.  All you ever see on Pinterest is Etsy.   I have one relisting tomorrow.  I wrote the URL number down.  When I search on Google, none of my items come up.  But if I search on Duck Duck Go or other search engines my items show up.  Google is a waste of time if you are searching for things.  They only show you what THEY want to show you.

Yep.....my GTC item flipped and retained the item number/URL.  Also, I looked at a few of my ebay items on Pinterest and Pinterest took me to the item itself. (These were newer items, not sure about older ones...haven't checked yet.)

Thanks for checking.  Every single item I had on Pinterest was a dead end with the "We Looked Everywhere" page  That Is why I deleted them all.  Wasn't going to advertise for eBay when they weren't advertising for me.

When they first started GTC they didn't keep the same item number and URL.  They must have changed it.  But GTC didn't do me any good anyway.  Sales have been so slow since they started it.  It didn't help me one iota.  Older items get buried in search anyway.

Re: GTC: What a stupid idea! What was ebay thinking? It will never work! Bring back the old way!

The shills never give up do they? I realize what you're getting at, in comparison to changes with "managed payments" but it's not even comparable. The facts of the matter are different, in that Ebay's move to manage payments and tap/store bank account data directly, when it is known for having lousy cyber-security, is paramount to extreme risk - at the potential expense and loss of the sellers that keep Ebay in business.

Seeing the recent Cyber-ransom attack by DarkSide on Colonial Pipeline is just a taste of what's to come for Ebay, because by touting they will now behave like a one-stop shop for financial frangibles, trying to be both bank/sale/credit and eventually investing service in one (i.e., a la Paypal CEO Dan Schulman has been facilitating) it has put itself out there as a "get" for every 2-bit hacker world-wide, to access and acquire hundreds-of-thousands to millions of bank-account numbers and private data that would not otherwise be shared with Ebay.

Ebay's cyber-security is NO match for the security Paypal had, and continues to have, in place - as well as Paypal was always a buffer between Ebay's irrational, negligent, and grossly ignorant handling of its fees, penalties, and mistaken accounting over the years. With Ebay taking the helm of being both bank and jury, you will have little to no recourse of dispute fees and deductions in real-time, against real cash-dollars, versus the ethereal cushion of those transferring payment or fees to Ebay solely by credit card - and at will.

So please, again, don't be a shill - this "managed payment" plan with bank-account on tap move is not just another one of the useless and silly utility ideas that Ebay has concocted over the years, many for which I went along or had been indifferent.

This is the first time in my 21-plus years on Ebay I have truly spoken out about a really bad platform idea on Ebay's part, which they are working hard to try to sell as an advantage - primarily because they simply don't have the security to back it up. Yet, they won't be there to help you out during their next big security breach, as some hacker clears out your bank account in one fell swoop, for which that won't be FDIC insured either (because the hackers got access to your account through vehicles you shared to a third party, none other than Ebay.)

Whether Ebay has had stupid ideas that were purely academic or solely aimed at interface functionality in that past are one thing - but a stupid idea that puts the inherent financial safety and potential compromise of sensitive data act risk - such that can destroy someone in minutes - is colossally stupid idea.

Re: GTC: What a stupid idea! What was ebay thinking? It will never work! Bring back the old way!

I gotta say, for me, GTC was one of the best changes eBay made. I sell a lot of long tail collectible items and before GTC I would manually relist them every month, meaning I would lose all of the watchers, the Google search placement, etc. Once things switched over to GTC? Things that I'd been repeatedly relisting for years suddenly started selling. I can't believe I'd been hurting my own sales for years by falling for the myth that relisting things constantly helps boost sales, because it sure didn't in my case.

I linked some of my items on Twitter last year and I went back and checked-- the URL/item number for the ones that haven't sold is still the same now as it was back then.

Re: GTC: What a stupid idea! What was ebay thinking? It will never work! Bring back the old way!

All my GTC listing that started in March 2019 still have the original listing number. Any I started after March 2019 still have the original listing number.

The Start Dates never change either! The ending dates of course are reset every month.

I know this started as a joke thread but I have to say that I kick myself everyday that I didn't use GTC 14 years ago when it first started. I waited until it was the only option and from then on enjoyed dramatically increased sales from the exact same items at the same prices.

Same. I'm kicking myself because how many more sales could I have made with so much less effort? It was a pain to go through and relist everything every month!

Not to mention the amount of money one saved on store subscriptions - at the time GTC rolled out I had been paying for a Premium store - I was able to go down to Basic with considerable savings and realised that all of those little 5, 7 and 10-day listings I'd been doing had been a waste of time and money.  I'm all FP, people will buy when they see an item - there's no reason to wait (for what? It's not like it's an auction).  I think I was reluctant to let eBay handle the roll-over, but so far they haven't been any worse than they've been previously (i.e., they still lose listings, etc., but no worse than before).
