First Class Package--What happens to listings that are not updated during the 30 day period?

elizabeth@ebay

From the seller news announcement:

If you ship with First Class Package, you will be able to update listings to USPS Ground Advantage over the next 30 days.

1) Does that "next 30 days" window begin on July 9th?

2) If yes, what will happen to my BIN listings if they are not updated during that 30 day window.

3) If business policies is not an option (I attempted to use them and chaos resulted), does that mean that each listing must be changed individually?

Thank you for any information.  I ask because I will be on vacation during a 30 day window which begins on July 9 and unable to revise any listings.

So if USPS First Class is already chosen as a shipping option, I assume that the USPS Ground AAdvantage program will automatically update and I, for one, will have to do nothing, yeah?

Incorrect. eBay will update Parcel Select to GA.  Unless they changes how this is going to work, your first class option will not update to GA. You will have to change it manually but you have a month (August 8th?) to do that.  For the first month your listing will show first class but a GA label will print. After that I'm not sure what happens if you haven't changed your listings.

Elizabeth said it would show up as no valid shipping option. Kind of like when I check off that I ship worldwide without putting in a price, and it tells people to ask me for a shipping quote. I presume it will be like that.

Why eBay can't update it, it's beyond me. If FC is going to be GA going forward, I don't see why they can't relabel the dropdown to show that. I did update most of my listings (I'm sure there's quite a few strays). What I'm hoping ebay will be bright enough to do is give us a filter on our Active listings to find anything that still says FC so we know to update those, just like they give is a filter to add item specifics. But somehow I don't think this will happen very soon.

Re: First Class Package--What happens to listings that are not updated during the 30 day period?

Right now I have a mix of flat rate and calculated 1st class shipping listings.  If I attempt to revise to standard shipping, what will be charged?  Does that only work for the flat rate ones?

A few months ago all of my 1st class listings were flat rate, but I read how foolish that was because the rates kept going up and I either lost money or had to revise.  So, I thought I'd fix that by revising most to calculated.  Now I'm in a mess again.

Re: First Class Package--What happens to listings that are not updated during the 30 day period?

Perhaps the 1st Class coding swap is complicated by:

1st Class package

1st Class large envelope (flat)

1st Class letter

I'm going to press on with getting my remaining 1st Class listings switched to "standard". Tomorrow the only time it will not be raining is from 7-10 AM. Looks like an indoor day.

I'm not sure how it works with calculated, another member was posting that they had to be done manually (I think the reason given was the measurements if they were over 1 lb). I have coins, so I just put a flat FC price of 4.10 for coins, and 5.15 for anything that might be heavier than 4 oz.

When I go into bulk edit, I select what I want from the active listings page, then I select "bulk edit selected listings" and then select all within the bulk edit, and then the Domestic Shipping option, which I think is only for your first service offered (not sure if you had multiple services offered, for coins that doesn't make sense to offer Priority shipping, but for other types of items people might want a bit of speed with their shipment). I select the new shipping class, which I picked either standard or economy, pending on what it was and how it would likely be sent, and then I had to put in the new price. So I had to do ones that were 4.10 separately from 5.15. (And I made most 4.10 ones 4.35 to account for price increases).

I had to do anything that was odd ball separately because it was a unique situation, and did all the coin albums by type/size (which go via Priority flat rate mailer, but I still specified as standard).

What I did notice while shipping, if I specify standard (which FC is under, standard options) when I go to print the label it defaults to Priority and I have to change it. I noticed when I did my banknotes which were economy (so they could actually go ESE), it defaulted to FC. How interesting that is, however I suppose the only real economy service is media mail, which I never use, even when I have items that qualify.

You can think of it as just a name change.  After July 9, postage prices for packages up to 15.99 ounces will be the same as they are today.

That's what's so irritating lol. It's "just a name change" and I have all the confidence in the world, that a simple name change is going to absolutely bleep things up because the "code" has to be changed.

I saw this coming last week and combined 3 first class booklets into a single listing with PM Flat Rate envelope and it sold within hours lol. Now I'm going to delete any reference to First Class from my handful of listings and offer no choice but Priority Mail.

I seriously feel for the sellers with thousands of listings who tried giving their customers a choice - and now get to manually change them, from the way it's sounding.

"Standard" or any of the generic choices will not work with Calculated shipping.

Having flat rate First Class Package is not foolish, it requires at most 4 Business Policies to change the price when rates change.

1 - Policy for up to 4oz

2 - Policy for up to 8oz

3 - Policy for up to 12oz

4 - Policy for up to 15.99oz

Re: First Class Package--What happens to listings that are not updated during the 30 day period?

I will worry on July 9.   Nearly everything is first class mail for me.  Frankly, I am sick and tired of the post office constantly change the names of shipping. Parcel select, parcel ground, etc, etc. They need to give it a name and then keep it.

Re: First Class Package--What happens to listings that are not updated during the 30 day period?

If the problem is the code because there are too many services with "First Class" in the name

What eBay needs to do for us, with thousands of listings, is give us the ability to FILTER our active listings page by shipping service type. OR, give us the ability to filter by shipping service type in the bulk editing tool.

One way or another, eBay needs to give us the tools we need as going through thousands of listings and manually updating all of them, or having to manually select each listing with FC, one by one, is not a solution.

Re: First Class Package--What happens to listings that are not updated during the 30 day period?

It's not the coding that scares Ebay. It's the salaries required by a talented onshore development team - that's what they don't want to pay for. Based on the minimal updates I've seen on the site in the past 20+ years, I don't think Ebay has paid any talented devs during that time. They have some offshore guys who know just enough to make a few tweaks here & there. And the QA testers are probably even less knowledgeable. These are likely waterfall devs & testers - not agile. That's why updates always break stuff, is they don't properly test. Hell, maybe they make the devs do their own testing. This is pennywise & dollar foolish, as I've already been trimming back my presence here after they failed to protect me on a brushing scam on a Fitbit return. All these video games would have to be updated one-by-one. I'm not interested. This may just hasten my total departure to sooner than Dec. 31 this year. I swear they have some real turds in the c-suite headed up by the loser from walmart. (worst retailer in America!) Now let's see which of them starts sending me spiders & dead animals in the mail!

The option to filter was my recommendation, that way if you have thousands of listings (I have that many too), you can easily see which ones are not updated and make the necessary correction.
