Firefox again

Is anyone else on Firefox getting this problem where you get an update and then suddenly ebay declares you are on a different computer and need to confirm your account? Its annoying as heck.  Happens every time. I can never remember my secret question then have to go through the hassel of calling ebay in INDIA.

Have you tried a different browser?

...Or just not updating your Firefox browser? Smiley Happy

My anti-virus automatically updates everything so I don't have much choice in the matter.  It's strange, my IP hasn't changed so I don't know why the perceive me as being on a different computer.

I have never had this type of issue (using FireFox with auto-update).

As far as having the same IP address, unless you have a fixed IP your IP will change anytime your modem shuts down.

The only time I've needed to confirm my account in this way is when I've been offline for weeks or months.

FYI - eBay does not and never has any customer support in India! It's in the Philippines and Utah.

On Firefox,

I've used the selection to send me a Text Message when this happens.

Then I simply enter the texted 6(?) digit number i'm sent.

Browsers present a User-Agent to websites in every single Get request sent to the servers by the browser, and an updated browser will present a different one than the previous version.

For example, my Firefox 3. 6.24 user agent is:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.24) Gecko/20111103 Firefox/3.6.24.1
while Firefox 31 presents
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/31.0

Additionally, JavaScript (and eBay uses tons of it), can fingerprint a browser and the computer more deeply - installed browser plugins, display resolution, browser window size, audio info, etc.

Having said that, I don't know why that is causing you to be flagged for security reasons.

I use my phone with Edge Browser, Opera Mini (a proxied browser), UC Browser (another proxied browser), 3 or 4 other browser on WiFi and cellular connections, and dozens of desktop Firefox browser versions with spoofed user agents (sometimes non-existent ones, or masquerading as an iPhone, Opera Mini, a Googlebot, etc)) , varying script, cookie, and other permissions, spoofed referers, etc, run through various proxies and VPNs at times, along with IE, Opera, emulated Opera mobile versions with spoofed Android and other user-agents, and eBay never asks me to verify my account.

No problems here with any browser. You may have some problems with adware or malware. Dont rely just on your anti virus..Some dont do a very good job with malware or it could be an add on on Firefox cause problems.

@warren689,

"My anti-virus automatically updates everything so I don't have much choice in the matter.  It's strange, my IP hasn't changed so I don't know why the perceive me as being on a different computer".

Your anti-virus program should have an option to allow you to choose updates, or to update manually.  I never allow automatic updates, since they sometimes have issues that cause conflicts with some sites or other programs.  Sometimes clearing your cookie cache, causes sites not to recognize a device. When that happens they will send offer to send an email or text to my stored phone / email.  No big deal.

The only problem I experience is being asked to add / create security questions. It happens every so often, and all I do is hit the back button, and after the sign in page reloads, hit enter again.

It used to do that for me too but now it requires the answer to a secret question I don't remember. So when I get it wrong I have to call and sit there for an hour on the phone. Just to lower a price on an item by $10. SMH.
