Can someone please clarify the outrageous FVF fees. Here is an example.....I just sold an action figure set for $29.99 USD. I was charged a FVF of $5.48+.30. Now I understand the stand .30cents but why was the $5.48 (18%) taken from the sale. I sell mostly figure and Funk POP and as I am looking at the FVFs they are all above 13%. I am rated as a Top Seller as well. I thought the FVF were 12.35%.
Definitely will stop selling on eBay for now. Between these FVFs and the horrible forced acceptance of managed payments, it does't make sense anymore.

Hi - Perhaps it is a matter of perception & what we each are able to perceive.

I sold an item for $3999.99, i got $3300 out of it. It is jewelry. It says 15% of the first $1000. 6.5% from 1000-7500. I calculated to be $150+ $195 = $345 but they charge me over of this number. What the hell? They have been doing this for so long and I didnt even realize it.

How much over?
Did the buyer also pay for shipping?
Was Sales Tax charged to the buyer?
Was it an International buyer?

Well if the buyer paid sales tax, you'd have your FVF on 6.50% of that amount. So lets say $3999.00 x 8.5% = 339.92 this of course is paid by the buyer. But you would have a FVF on the 339.92 x 6.50% = 22.09
Added to your fee for the product that would be the 345.00 + 22.09 = 367.09.
I'm not sure where the rest of the money went. You should really call Ebay and find out as this is clearly a large amount of money. First make sure you are reading your numbers correctly. You can get the exact amount you paid in FVF from the All Transaction report in your Seller Hub under the Payments Tab.
I hope you will come back and tell us what you found out.

FVF should never include sales tax...EVER

But it does. So what now? If you are going to sell here you have to deal with it. So what do you propose other than leaving the site?

Well for me, I am probably done with fleabay. I have been on since 1996 but had not sold on here in a little while. I just sold my 1st Item and saw how high the fees are. I will look into other venues

Don't be surprised when you find out some of the other sites also add taxes before figuring fvf's.

Well that is certainly your right. But why would you think that after being away for awhile from selling that selling fees would not increase? Would you think their costs have not gone up? Do you expect the fees to say the same year after year after year?
Now realistically, Ebay did have a fee increase as of April 1, 2021. The first one we have had in quite a while. It was 0.20% across categories.
Some sellers feel that now that we are in MP that are fees increased. And in a way they did because Ebay is now our money processor. So instead of paying PayPal for money processing we pay Ebay. But some simple math will show you that they did not increase fees.
The fees in MP have NOT increased overall fees. The following numbers represent those that do not have a store and the fee rate for most common categories [not all].
Fees BEFORE going into MP
10.20% FVF + 2.9% PP fees = 13.10% plus 30 cent per transaction fee.
In MP the fees are:
10.20% FVF + 2.35% money processing fee paid to MP = 12.55% plus a 30 cent per transaction fee.
Starting August 2nd, PayPal is raising their fees, so they will be as follows:
10.20 Ebay FVF + 3.49 PP Fee = 13.69% plus .49 cent Per Transaction fee
PP is apparently offering different fees to different sellers, likely depending on size. From what I've seen it is between 2.59% and 3.49%.

Does ebay charge us a final value fee on the sales tax THEY collect and submit on our behalf? Or do they just charge the fvf on the selling price and shipping?

Sales tax is included in the total on which the fvf is figured.........Would you rather collect and remit the sales tax yourself to each state to which you have sold?

Fees are actually closer to 20% on most items under $25. Got to factor in that shipping and oh man it's painful. I remember setting up a store 15 years ago and priced everything $0.01 putting the sale in the shipping. HAHA, eBay wasn't too happy...

It is like it was with PayPal. They charge the fee on the entire amount processed regardless of how it is broken down.

There is not ANY category on Ebay that has a fee as high as 20%. Even with shipping factored in [as it has been for OVER 10 years].
If you have a basic store or above, your FVFs are 11.70% plus a 30 cent transaction fee. You are not paying anywhere near 20%.
If you have a starter store you are paying 12.55% plus 30 cent per transaction fee.

But it does, and most sellers don't mind because they would much rather pay a small % for eBay to deal with 50 different state tax collections and reimbursements.
Check the hourly rate for a Tax accountant, maybe that will put things into perspective 🙂
