Final Value Fee

I get that Ebay needs to make money so taking 10% of the sale is not great but kind of understandable.

Whats not is why they take from sales tax and especially from shipping !!! How can u justify taking away profit from the seller if they are paying for shipping themselves or if the buyer has to pay why are u taking that from the seller?? The seller isnt making anything from shipping !!

Its ridiculous and because they have this market monopolized they can do whatever they want, i hope they change these rules.

Re: Final Value Fee

Sales tax collection is required. The 10% on shipping charges was eBay's answer to sellers (in the past) charging $1 for a $100 item... but charging $99 shipping charge... dig it? They won't change these rules.

Re: Final Value Fee

Congratulations on your recent sale.

Yup... Feebay takes their fee based on the total amount of the transaction including sale price of the item, and shipping.  If you are in Managed Payments, that includes Sales Tax the buyer paid too.

It shouldn't be a surprise.  The complete fee schedules are posted for you to read and refer to at any time.  Click on Help & Contact on the top of the page to find the information.  There is also a load of good info in Policies at the bottom of the page.  You should read everything.

By the way we are member responders.  Ebay management and rule-makers don't read the posts here, but I'm glad you got it all off your chest.

Re: Final Value Fee

You don't appear to be in Managed Payments yet so you aren't paying final value fees on tax yet.  The new managed payments fee structure for people with stores isn't that bad, but I have done no comparisons for non-store sellers.

Re: Final Value Fee

Maybe this will make you feel better:

(a) Everyone is in the same boat, so no one has an advantage when you

(b) price your item(s) accordingly.

Everyone needs to make money. All things equal, if any one of us doesn't make money, we go out of business.

And remember, there's always free shipping.

Re: Final Value Fee

especially from shipping

eBay wants to encourage sellers to offer free shipping. Without that final value fee on shipping, there is no incentive for sellers to do so. Oh, and as a side benefit it also makes eBay more money.

How can u justify taking away profit from the seller

Because the 1.3 billion items that are listed here are a pretty good sign that sellers are willing to pay it.

Its ridiculous and because they have this market monopolized

Amazon, Etsy, Mercari, Poshmark, eCrater, Bonanza, and about a dozen others would claim otherwise.
