Final Value 13.25%

Hello,

I sold a Centrifugal Pump that should of been in the category "Business and industrial, Heavy equipment".
From my understanding, this category should have a final value fee of 3% with a starter store subscription. I was charged 13.25% and I have no Idea how to dispute this or try to lower that fee. As we all know, Ebay doesn't make it easy to reach out to them and have a conversation about this. I am now turning to the community to guide me. Thanks!

Re: Final Value 13.25%

Your listing was not under Business & Industrial > Heavy Equipment, Parts & Attachments > Heavy Equipment

Your listing was under Business & Industrial > Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Pumps & Plumbing > Pumps & Pump Accessories > Centrifugal Pumps

Therefore the 13.25% fee applies.

You want to dispute the fees you paid because in retrospect, you wish you had listed in a category with lower fees?

Re: Final Value 13.25%

Thank you for clarifying that, should I have that under the first category you mentioned, I would have only been charged the 3% + $20 insertion?

Re: Final Value 13.25%

The reduced fees only apply to specifics sub-categories of Business / Industrial

Your listing was NOT in one of those Sub-Categories

Re: Final Value 13.25%

From your first post: "I sold a Centrifugal Pump".  So no, you did not select the wrong category.  It would not have belonged in one of the categories with the different fee structure.

Re: Final Value 13.25%

You selected the correct category for the item you listed. If you put it in one of the discounted Categories that would be a) fee avoidance and b) make it harder for buyers to find your listing.

Re: Final Value 13.25%

Understood,

So for the future, keep the correct category but raise the price by 13.25%. Got it, thank you

Fees are increasing on Feb 14 in case you missed the Seller Update eBay emailed yesterday.

Re: Final Value 13.25%

let's say I'm selling an air compressor, I'd be subject to that 13.25% as well? or would I have the sub category heavy equipment and be charged the 3%? if not, what is considered heavy equipment? is the weight limit, or specific product

You sold a pump and it was listed in the pump category, so I don't think eBay will see it that way.

Nor do I think they have a process for letting you advertise and sell an item in a high fee category and then retroactively switch the transaction to a low fee category.

eBay policy always used to say you must list in the correct ("most appropriate") category. NO idea what it says now.

Raising the price is entirely up to you.

Re: Final Value 13.25%

Depends on the type of air compressor.

There's an air compressor category under eBay Motors for automotive compressors.

There's an air compressor category under Home & Garden.

There's the category I suspect applies to your items which is:

Business & Industrial > Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Pumps & Plumbing > Air Compressors & Blowers

Pricing is up to you, the key takeaway is that the Fees schedules can be confusing, they are overly complicated so it's imperative to really study them and understand the variations.

The same is true for many eBay policies.

The only positive thing I can say is that the Help pages are far better now than they were in the past but they still require very careful reading.

These are issues that are faced by many sellers, running the range from new/infrequent to those that have been selling for decades.
