Why are the fees so complicated?  I just want to know how much it's going to cost me when I sell something.

I list it for $250. How much will ebay charge me? How can this be calculated?

Fees

Not that hard (google is your friend); Sneakers are 8% fee

Use 8% (national average) for Sales tax.

So, your shoes at $245 plus $15 shipping plus $21 Sales Tax:

$281 x 8% (.08) is $23 fees.

So you will 'net' (after you pay for shipping, ebay takes those taxes and their fees)

$225

Fees

you take the amount that the items sells for + shipping cost + sales tax X the ebay fees for the category then add $.40 to that.

if you are doing promoted listings  amount that the items sells for + shipping cost + sales tax X promoted %

It depends on what you sell, what category you list in, if you've added Promotions, etc. And, yes, it is confusing for the newcomer. Tick this link and see what applies to your listing. Good luck.

You can’t know the exact amount before it sells as it is based on the total amount the buyer pays. So buyers in different states will pay different shipping and tax rates. It also depends on the category your item is in.

you can not get a exact amount but I just assume 7% sales tax and a average shipping cost, it will not be exact but it will be close

Fees are complicated because they vary by many inputs some of which you can control (such as item category) and some that you cannot anticipate with accuracy, such as the sales tax and shipping cost to the buyer's location.  But try this shipping calculator tool:

https://www.ebayfeescalculator.com/usa-ebay-calculator/

Short answer: For a $250 item, about $40.

fees are all different but expect from 20-30% of the total amt paid by the buyer. Fees are calculated on the selling price, the sales tax the buy pays, and on the total shipping amt plus another .40.  Did I forget anything? Plus if you have a store, you are paying a monthly fee to list items. If you are a top rated seller, you get a 10% discount on the amt.

It seems like the OP wants to know what the fees will be before the item sells.

And, of course, there is no way to ascertain that, because of the variables listed by other posters.

The highest standard eBay fee is 15% of the total transaction value plus 30 cents (or maybe 40 cents if that new rate has kicked in).

The ONLY way it can be "20 - 30%" is if the seller adds promotions.

You've sold a few other items around that price, so the fee's should be pretty close to the others.

Have a great day.

Might want to check your item specifics - UK size 3.5 shoes?

The percentage taken by eBay is easy but more complicated if you are are looking at the bottom line and what you net from the sale. The fees definitely take a bigger bite out of lower priced items and especially those lower priced items that weigh over a pound or any item that is expensive to ship.   If you don’t do things right it can definitely feel like you are paying 20-30%

He didn't give you a "rule of thumb;" he gave you a specific example, using an item with a final value fee rate of 8% whereas in most categories the rate is 13.25%.

The rate is 8% for items over $150 that are listed in very specific categories:

Are your $245 shoes listed in one of those categories? Because at the top of the listing, and when I click on "Have one to sell? Sell now" just below the Gallery image, it says it's in Baby Shoes, not in Men's or Women's.
