Has anyone else noticed that buyers are not giving feedback to sellers. I think buyer feedback has dropped off considerably. I get notices that as a seller I should send feedback, but I don't think I want to do that until the buyer sends feedback. Any thoughts?

Buyers also get reminders from eBay to leave feedback as well, so don't think it is a seller thing.

Voluntary and in most cases....useless. Especially for buyers.

Seems like a trend. Might be related to the increase of mobile phone usage.

I agree with jda. It's useless and can be misleading on both parties.
But I still leave it. As a seller I leave when they pay or sometimes when I ship. Leaving it first has never been a problem. Buyers expect it and I know they'll be happy with their purchase. Typically though I think sellers leave more feedback than they receive.
If you're waiting for the buyer to leave it first maybe they're waiting for you to leave it first!
Try leaving it first and see if it helps.

Here's the way I think it should work...Buyer receives item, leaves positive feedback to signal they received the item and are happy. I then leave feedback for them.
How I actually do it...buyer pays, I ship and leave feedback. Then I forget about it.

Hi @2xislanders
There are valid reasons for your wanting the buyer to leave feedback first … but I believe that is working against your receiving more feedback.
They say that the best way to receive feedback is to leave it.

They pay, give them feedback. Makes them happy (if they care) and the lack of feedback won’t save a transaction where you think they are being unreasonable.

Hi, i leave feedback when the buyer pays and i am printing out the shipping label, thanking them for their purchase.
eBay’s Feedback program has been waning in importance over years now. Where it once was an necessary part of establishing one’s credibility as a trading partner, and a reputable member of the eBay community, it has become less important as policies changed.
Those changes made it harder for bad sellers to thrive, and in 2008, eBay altered the feedback rules to where sellers were only able to leave a positive for buyers.

I hardly get feedback anymore for my sales. over 2k items sold and I only have 783 feedback. I don't really expect the buyer to leave feedback.. its wicked nice to see.. but I don't expect it. I tend to delay my feedback to the buyer, several factors. I have had buyers try to rip me off, sending me back the wrong item one good reason (wish they would let us leave negative for buyers in this case) but I always do send them feedback soon after and sometimes this gets them to leave me some as well.

All of us by this time know that FB is optional, not mandatory.
And all of us are free to handle it in whatever fashion we choose, no need to poll the crowd for what everyone thinks is the best way to handle feedback.
Leave it, don't leave it. Leave it whenever you want.

LOL, I felt so guilty reading this that I went and gave all my recent sellers feedback.

My thoughts - "YOU don't get feedback unless you give ME feedback" is letting yourself be manipulated by a silly system. I'd simply decide if you want to leave it or not, and simply do so on your own schedule.

You complain about not getting feedback then turn around and say you will no longer give feedback. OK, feedback is voluntarily your choice.
