Feedback extortion

I’ve had 100% rating for over a decade on this account. I was just threatened with a negative feedback if I did not give a partial refund. I immediately contacted CS and was told not to worry, any negative feedback would be removed because item was about size and shown clearly next to a ruler. ( Diamond Huggies ) I refused the shakedown and ignored buyer once the extortion message came in. Neg of course was left claiming I enlarged pics ( on diamonds- lmao. Most buyers demand zoomed in pics to see clarity and color!) So I requested removal. Denied stating it was INAD - when no return request was opened for INAD???money back guarantee ??? I then escalated to the “ offline team” which immediately denied the request to remove because eBay didn’t want to get involved in a buyer’s opinion.
Another thing-I thought a buyer had to wait 7 days to leave bad feedback? Guess that changed too!
So I’m furious. I buy & collect way more than I sell. eBay is making 18% off my sales. Ended all of my listings, made FB private, returning items.
So beware. What stuck out to me was “ Buyers don’t expect to see 100% positive feedback “ in this new garbage update.
100% positive feedback is a reputation I’ve strived to attain and sustain. 1 buyer clearly violating eBay policy can ruin it with no recourse from a seller.

Re: Feedback extortion

You ended all your listings because some gave you a negative? I remember when I used to have 10 of them. I would pick up one a year or so. Long ago anyone could give you a negative even if they didn't buy anything from you. They didn't slow my business and no one ever even asked me about them. I was very thankful when ebay decided negatives would only show for one year and boom I had perfect feedback and no negatives. It was one of ebay's good ideas.

I feel sorry for you and agree with you that your negative feedback should be removed but in all honesty, I think you're overreacting just a little.

A little?
"Ended all of my listings, made FB private, returning items. "
So apparently even other sellers who did nothing wrong have to pay for the OP's fury.

Since you gave up on social media I guess you won't ever talk to an actual employee and see what they say.

Once the chain reaction starts, offered solutions are just more things to be disgusted by, one way or another .  Outrage addiction is real.  😔

Re: Feedback extortion

One a year is good, in fact I like having (just) one.

Re: Feedback extortion

You should have just replied in that feedback that buyer was extorting you for a partial refund and fix their butt on here. Sellers seeing that on a buyers record will block those people.

The problem is they will tell you anything to get you off the phone and furthermore aren't  held accountable when  you're misguided.

Asking for a partial refund is a way to get an item cheaper and you shouldn't cave. They should return it for a full refund if they aren't happy.

It used to be feedback extortion if they said if you don't  refund I'll leave negative feedback, thus making it removable.

I don't know why eBay has stooped so low and let buyers get away with this horse manure.

Keep trying until you get a US rep with half a brain.

It is horse manure when a buyers threatens neg and leaves it when they have bullied a seller for a POLICY VIOLATING , yes, look it up, YOU CANNOT use asking FOR A PARTIAL REFUND as a stronghold technique on here to get a price reduction after the sale. NOT ALLOWED. AND, to threaten and leave neg over that bad.

@deanenesthings

By taking down your listings and making your feedback private, you are letting the buyer "win".  Don't let her do that.

You have been a member for many years and have a great feedback record.  It is clear that your customers are happy.  Then this nasty person comes along and tries to extort you and leaves you a negative.  You need to do as others have suggested and contact eBay by social media and get the negative removed, put your listings back up and go on with your life as usual.  Right now, she could look at your account and see that you have shut down and gloat that she contributed to that.  Don't let her do that.   Don't let her win.

Re: Feedback extortion

I don't know if this will help but on those occasions when I need assistance, accessed through the ebay website, I call immediately at 8 AM EST because I always seem to be connected with a native English speaker who understands the issue, takes notes (at least I hear key strokes), has a solution and if I need to call back there is a record of the previous conversation. On a related note I've finally learned my lesson and will refuse sales from buyers who open an account to buy my item. Twice I've received messages that the item was received broken and a demand for an immediate refund. Requests for a picture documenting damage is ignored. As before we accept the return, notify ebay, report the buyer and eventually block the buyer. Last time the item was never returned and I suspect the same will happen this time.

Re: Feedback extortion

No, I pay top dollar for my items, leave positive feedback and overlook discrepancies in listings. 90% of the items I buy have issues but I always leave 5 star feedback. I’m about done with that.

Thanks so much for the kind words. This buyer was a former seller with 3k feedback.

Re: Feedback extortion

Yes I did. A buyer threatening negative feedback if I didn’t give them a partial refund was enough for me. I work too hard and pay too much in fees to not eBay at least have my back / protect my account/reputation!
