Feedback decreased

My feedback is very important to me and therefore I find it frustrating to see the numbers posted decreasing. Why? In a matter of weeks from 230 comments to 220. Also made me upset I couldn’t leave negative feedback for a deadbeat buyer. My only option was to first choose a positive rating but then state truth in comments? WTH? I don’t get it.

Are you here to earn money? Or are you here to get feedbacks? Personally I prefer the money.

With your feedback rating you have so many that it doesn't really matter about receiving more... after several hundred, it's not so important. If you get too many people think you're so busy selling that you won't notice you've been scammed and you become a target. I'm OK with not receiving any more feedback ever again.

You can't leave negative comments with a positive rating and if your buyer is an experienced ebayer they will know calling eBay will get that removed and you'll get a policy violation. People don't read positive comments anyone, so likely no one will notice what you wrote.

You can't leave negative feedback for buyers and have not been able for a number of years. Positive/negative feedback can be removed.

Sounds like you are not using the proper tools for nonpaying buyers, which is to cancel for non-payment for which those people get a strike on their account. If you lost close to 100 feedback's that you left positive/negative feedback (?don't know cant see what was removed) sounds like you don't know the rules or are having a very bad run of buyers.

Feedback has never been required, and you might be on eBay's bot-dar now.

@luminousthings

What do you mean by your feedback decreasing?

If you are referring to the number of feedbacks you received in the last 12 months (120) and that number was higher before, it could be that some older feedbacks fell off the 12 month count once they were over a year old.

But as pointed out by @redmodelt , other feedback violations YOU had were feedbacks removed because you left negative comments for buyers and those buyers were knowledgeable enough to know to report you.

Feedback has been decreasing in importance to buyers for many years. Many only care about the negatives they leave for sellers.

Fewer buyers leave FB for transactions which have met expectations.

Buyers visit Ebay less often than they did in the past. Most buyers leave FB when they are coming to the site to browse or buy. If they are living their lives FB drops.

BTW truth in the comments on buyer FB can get you suspended, as well has having the FB removed. The rules prohibit leaving any negative comments, even as a positive, for buyers.

Looks like you had a couple feedback comments removed?

Did it really do any good to violate a policy?

Have a great day.

Sellers have been unable to leave negative or neutral ratings for buyers since May 20, 2008.  How fortunate you are to have never had occasion to notice this before now.

For me, this has not been on the top of buyer's list of things to do for a few years now.  Unless they have something negative to say.

I sell regularly and less than about 25% of my buyers actually leave feedback.

@luminousthings

My feedback rate is at about 40%.   Back in the old days, when online selling was a new phenomenon and people were excited to find things they wanted, it was a lot higher.

I think these days -- with everyone zipping along in the fast lane of the information superhighway, so absorbed in their phones that they don't even have time to even talk to their families -- feedback is perhaps more generally seen as just one more chore.

Never mind that many buyers feel its unnecessary, since the money they paid you reflects their confidence in you as a seller.

eBay seller since 1999. This is a posting ID.

If you were upset at not being able to leave negative FB for a deadbeat buyer, would suggest this would be a good time to review eBay rules for buyers.  This has been the case for many years.

And, BTW, leaving a positive FB with negative comments can cause you a problem also.  If the buyer reports that FB, it will be removed and you, the seller, will have earned yourself a "defect".

Why is your feedback count very important to you? What benefit do you think it gives you?

I think old feedback dropping off explains it. I’ve never left negative feedback. The one time I wanted to would have been on a person who gave me the runaround and then never paid.

My feedback matters because I enjoy knowing when people are happy with the item and support my efforts to ship promptly, etc…which I think gives other buyers confidence.  I use feedback to help me make purchases so figure others are influenced as well.

I think you’re referring to a comment removed when a buyer accused me of selling an item out from under him. I had misplaced the item and replied to defend myself. When I found the item(yay!) I contacted the buyer and arranged it so he could buy it so we both removed our negative interaction. I don’t take kindly to being accused of dishonesty but was very happy things ended well for myself and the buyer.

I don’t recall any other issues than this one.
