I been buying and selling on eBay since 2001 and I never had any problems untill Covid hit and it’s getting worse and worse.
not only sellers cannot leave bad feedback to buyer who scams you or return an empty box for full refund and ebay decides with buyer no matter what.
I get more problems lately and it’s really make my stomach sick.
I sold few items and almost 2 months later buyer want to return and file with ebay return…46 days after the sale..ebay automatically accept return and force me to pay for return shipping.
I thought return policy was only 30 days….I guess not.
I had another buyer open a return after 36 days saying she no longer like it…again somehow ebay make me pay $3.50 return shipping.
this is ridiculous.
but more frustrating thing is, ebay allow buyer another 30 days to return after they opened return through ebay what?
so buyer opened return after 46 days and few weeks past, still has not shipped….I guess they wait till close to return due dates….
people are so unfair and unkind and ebay as well.
how we are able to relax selling on eBay?
after this thing resolve, I m leaving ebay for good.
no wonder ebay stock is falling and over million people has left ebay.
not to mention PayPal gives 90 days to return…

It is 30 days, from the time the buyer receives the item, not when they buy it.

Same here. I have been on eBay since 1997 buying at first and then turned seller. When they made Negative Feedback available for only the buyer I started to try and get Ebay to change the policy a bit.
I have contacted them hundreds of time over the past view years.
My solution is this:
The buyer can not leave negative feedback until after they message you to let the seller know about the issue the buyer has. They would have to wait until the seller responds.
If they did this it would be positive for both the buyer and the seller. Seller can work out any issues and possible get a buyer who returns to buy more because they trust you.
Simple....
eBay never responds...

eBay has its share of scammers and frauds, and the fact that it is an online platform with anonymity that doesn't really take steps to verify buyers identity makes it a bit easier for them, this is all true.
But the truth is that in any form of retail unless you are selling at flea markets for cash only, there are thieves and scammers. I have lost money before to scammers and bad buyers on eBay, but I also have a brick and mortar store and have lost a lot more that way.
I have had teens/young adults come in using a parents credit card, with the parents knowledge, on spending sprees. Then 2 months later the parent reports all those charges as "unauthorized", when in fact they knew the kids was buying and planned the scam all along. Helping raise the next generation of scumbags.
I have had film students drop $2500 on stuff they were using as props try to return the items when they were done with the project, when I wouldn't accept the return both because of dirt and damage and the fact that I don't provide a free prop loaning service they dumped it at my front door and filed a chargeback claiming it was all defective (over 30 items all magically defective). The only way I got paid was to find the video they made on the schools website and sent documentation to the Professor, Dean, President, every member of the Board, campus PD and every other person I could find connected to that class and oversight at any level with the video, the list of things in it they got, where they were in the film, and the fraudulent chargeback. Then I said that if I wasn't paid in full, plus 20% for my hassle, in cash in 7 days first I would press charges for fraud against the students but second I would send my account to every media source I could find telling them how the schools students scammed local small businesses for their assignments. I got my cash 4 days later, but the hassle and cost was made it overall still a net loss for me.
I have people try to return things they bought new and wore. I have people try and return things they didn't buy from me. I have shoplifters. I have people buy camping gear on Thursday and try to return it smelling like campfire smoke on Monday. I have gone back to my footwear section and found someone's stinky used boots because they put on a brand new pair and walked out.
If you are in business, short of a cash only in person only model you will always have some losses to scammers and thieves.

So if the seller never responds to the buyer, they would never get negative feedback.

It's very clear that it is 30 days from date of delivery https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy....

You beat me to it. Any seller who deserves a negative feedback can avoid it being posted by ghosting the buyer who has a legitimate complaint.
Nah.... Don't think that would work very well.

eBay screwed me for $1500 after a perfect sale they got paid everything was perfect. I’ve been with eBay since 2001. Nothing is changed in my account but now they say they need ID that I can’t get as I am shut it I don’t need it. I hope you choke on the money eBay you royally trucked me. I needed the money so bad you really changed my life. I hope all of you understand that eBay doesn’t care about the sellers if they did this to me after 21 years they will do it to you for any reason whatsoever ebay decides they’ll just keep your money and try to get them through them it’s absolutely impossible. Oh, and forget about saying anything bad. These people are such a bunch of babies, oh well been going on for a year you got my money and I get NOTHING. Thats ebay Stealing!! Absolutely no other explanation, straight up theft. No response necessary.

No, eBay didn’t screw you, you screwed yourself. eBay is required BY LAW to report your sale to the IRS, and to you via a Form 1099-K. For that, they need your SSN. They have also changed payment processor from PayPal to Adyen, and you need to provide them with a checking account where your money can be sent.
Shut in or not, how do you function without ID?

OP, are you adding valid tracking that shows delivery?
I have dealt with the system a lot and the system doesn't allow eBay MBG claims past 30 days of delivery.
If you don't upload valid tracking then the 30 day timer starts after the last day of the expected delivery estimation.
I honestly don't believe your story unless it's taking you a month to deliver to customer.
Maybe it's chargebacks that eBay is handling, IDK.

@whatmorefabric wrote:Ebay accepts Credit Cards. The agreement between CC processors and Ebay (and every other business) is that they must take returns . In cases of Items not as described or delivered, it is 90 days. Ebay has NO control over this.
Every on line site is like this and I have the fewest problems on Ebay.
Amazon is beginning to realize how much money this costs them and have been trying to crack down on fraud.
Yup - poor ebay - In my opinion, try as they may, controlling fraud is simply impossible - Nope surely nothing would work so why even try at all - poor ebay - Nope not even vetting accounts more thoroughly with all the technology(including AI) we have at our fingertips would help - And surely letting sellers know through Feedback that a buyer is a dirt bag would be useless - Why even try to stop international buyers who circumvent a sellers choice of "no international sales" with prop US accounts or questionable reshippers - And really, buyers with numerous reports against them will just create a new account, so why waste the time in canceling their current account - And when dealing with chargebacks, whats the point of putting much effort into it when its impossible to win(even though Paypal won all 3 of the chargebacks I EVER had through them) - And what would be the point of making new users watch a 10 minute video about common buyer fraud tactics that would likely dramatically reduce fraud and make it a lot harder for thieves to find easy prey, making them look elsewhere...
No its just impossible, so maybe the best thing that can be done is to create a program where buyers are 100% guaranteed to get their money back regardless of evidence or seller reputation - Yeeeaaahhh Poor ebay - there's nothing that can be done....

I think ebay goes with business days vs regular days of the week. That is how everything gets stretched out to future.
06-10-2023 08:16 PM
Sellers not being able to leave negative feedback on buyers hasn't been possible since 2008. More than a decade before Covid was a thing.
The Buyer's 30 days starts from the latest ETA date or the actual date the item arrive. Not from the date of sale.
"I sold few items and almost 2 months later buyer want to return and file with ebay return…46 days after the sale..ebay automatically accept return and force me to pay for return shipping."
There is more details to this and without that, it is hard to advise you what happened. However if they were "automatically accepted" you should check your Site Preferences for Returns. They only auto accept if you have that set up in your preferences.

That’s not true all!! I accept credit cards at my farm business and we do not accept returns. There is nothing in the card processor agreement that states a merchant MUST accept returns.
10-26-2023 06:18 AM
99.9% of buyers don’t have legitimate complaints….that’s the point.
10-26-2023 06:23 AM
Yes! That’s the policy but eBay will not abide with it.
They forced a return on me a few years back after 122 days when the return policy was supposedly 14 days back then! Customer claimed they were out of town and didn’t open the package for 3 months….. I had already stopped actively selling when my checking account was suddenly overdrawn by eBay. Needless to say I was very upset.
