Fed Ex Shipping alert

This is a heads up for buyers and sellers in CA concerning Fed Ex. We have experienced 4-5 deliveries and shipment in a row of 2-Day and Express packages scheduled for delivery and then turning up with delays, exceptions or packages being lost.  Items scheduled to be delivered do not get delivered on day stated by Fed Ex.   Also starting to get issues with the USPS. This is important as eBay counts service metrics dings on the seller's record.  There are service metrics available on shipping companies but eBay seemingly places defects on seller records as a matter of policy rather than adjust for the reality of the real world. 

The Sacramento region has some serious delivery time issues, at least from Fed Ex . 

This is a Heads up, be prepared as with the holidays coming , this will get worse rather than better.

I unfortunately have to use Fed-Ex on another site where I sell and it's pretty bad.  So far my customers are OK with it as I get a deep discount to ship heavy items so they save $$$, but they move like molasses.  I'm in Washington State, but TBH, I have packages wandering all over the US.

Fed Ex distribution in Perrysburg, OH has been all over local tv news lately regarding late and missing deliveries.  Mostly involved interviews with people waiting for prescription meds that are not arriving or arriving expired.  Ice packs with Insulin warm or softened from sitting in warehouse.

Fed Ex says delays are due to lack of warehouse employees and delivery drivers.

Fed Ex is horrible. Their delivery dates are never right. We buy a lot on-line. Sometimes high value items that need our signature.

With signature confirmation it is important to get the delivery day right, so we can make plans to sign.

This is typical...

Due: Saturday

Delayed: Sunday

Delayed: Monday

Delivered: Sunday

They're cheaper for a good reason.

It must be contagious, I ordered some Foam Wrap from Cleveland, this company is great, but they have tried every way to get their items delivered in a timely manner and nothing works, it usually takes 2 weeks by USPS, UPS, and now FedEx, they're in Cleveland, a 6 hour drive to South Bend, Indiana on the Ohio Turnpike and Indiana Toll Road. These delivery services must not like handling large, lightweight bags of peanuts, bubble and foam wrap because they take up space.

From North Carolina we have been seeing the same. We had a FedEx package shipped 9/4 and it ended up in Oklahoma where it sat until it was finally delivered in Texas today. They did not give any rationale so I could only assume #1 warehouse/distribution center issues or #2 weather issues.
USPS has had instances in a few distribution centers lately of either sending packages in the wrong direction or sitting on them for a few days.

The only thing we can do as a seller is ship in our handling time and make sure we are following up with our buyers if we see any delays. The proactive messages seem to help in most instances. We message our buyers on the day we ship to let them know the tracking number is in their order and to please contact us if there are any questions. Then if we see delays we message them with whatever we have done to try to help. 

That is about all any of us can do unfortunately.

Geez - at least the routing is coherent, if slow.  I had a package going back and forth between the midwest and the south three times, struggling to find its way to upstate New York.  Just an ordinary sized box.  SMH.

If it this bad in Sept can you imagine the holidays when they expect volume to increase 30% + and all of the buyers requests for refunds ?   We saw a big jump in INR last year. We never had one before 2020 and now it seems some buyers have the return request locked and loaded while waiting for the due date to pass midnight.  We hope eBay is prepared this year proactively  .

waiting for my ebay packaging supplies i received with my coupon, stuck in the sacramento elder creek warehouse for 2 weeks... no help from ebay, tried to call the warehouse but the number is not connected anymore - routes you to India which is no help either. filed an item not received with ebay, we'll see how they respond when they are on the other side.

I tried to use Fed-Ex several years ago. My package was well within the limits for a $20 delivery charge. Surprised with a $42 dollar surcharge on top of the $20 I had paid already. Tried it again a year or so later. Exact same outcome. Fed-Ex does not care to integrate themselves fully into the eBay platform. I contrast Fed-Ex on eBay with the USPS, which has NEVER let me down. Because eBay is the shipper of record you have absolutely no recourse whatsoever in correcting these anomalies with Fed-Ex.

I do not sell large items on eBay anymore, as there is no legitimate shipping to be had for heavier items above Priority Mail flat rates. My heavy items are now sold on Craigslist.

Fed-Ex, it may look enticing, but just say no.
