Featuring complimentary items in a listing?

Is there a way to feature other items in your listings that would compliment the original item you list?

To explain: Say I am listing a skirt and have the perfect belt or blouse that might go well with that item, is there a way to suggest that to potential buyers within a listing? Might increase sales if you could display a picture or other message that points out accessory items.

Maybe there is a way to do that & I am just unaware of it, but I haven't really noticed it in other listings either. Anyone know how you could do this within eBay?

Re: Featuring complimentary items in a listing?

I've seen descriptions state, Please be sure to see my listing for the fill in the blank that would go with this item.

That's about it.

If you put a picture in the listing, buyer might think they should get that, too.

I don't know why you couldn't put a link to the item.......  I see links to "my store" in descriptions........

Listings you have seen that do that are still keyword spamming violations.

You cannot mention an item that is not for sale in that ad. Period.

You can say something general like check out my store for items and/or accessories that would look great with this skirt...or simply sell the items together in a single ad.

I actually got cracked for keyword spamming once. The listing was for plates. I got busted for saying that I had bowls in the same pattern available in my store.

Now, I just say that I have more items in this pattern available in my store. That's just fine that way.

Personally, I think they need to crack down on keyword spamming again. It's out of control in many categories.

Re: Featuring complimentary items in a listing?

Thanks Moo for this advice! I was about to list 4 to 5 McCoy milk cannisters in graduated sizes as single listings. But it is a matched set. Was working on the Tallest one and put "Visit my Store to see the other sizes listed individually that are a set." Haven't listed any of them yet. Guess will use part of your suggestion:  "I have more canisters in this pattern in graduated sizes available in my store. " Will that cut it? Thanks for your help. I, too, when listing dinnerware I put in the first listing for dinnerplates that I have bowls, dinner plates, cups & saucers in this pattern available in my store. Then when I list the other pieces individually, I delete out what I have already listed (hope this makes sense). I guess that wouldn't fly?

Re: Featuring complimentary items in a listing?

This isn't exactly what you were asking about, but your question made me remember an earlier thread by an ebay rep on sending buyers those email offers.

He stated when sending an offer via email to a buyer that has emailed about an item we are permitted to add other items in to that offer and give a price for the bundle.  We all wondered how that would work with limited to no photos or descriptions, but he was very excited about this new selling possibility.

Has anyone done this?

Nope. Although I see it all the time too, it's not supposed to fly. A competitor could report you in a heartbeat. I'm assuming that's what happened to me.

"I have more canisters in this pattern in graduated sizes available in my store." Yup, that's general enough that I think it works. If you have a store category set up for McCoy or Canisters or by pattern name, a buyer should be able to find them easily.

You are very brave to ship canisters! I haven't seen any worth messing with in quite awhile. Shipping costs are usually the deal breaker. They must be very nice ones!

Re: Featuring complimentary items in a listing?

It seems to me that multi-variation listings would work for all the examples given so far. In the main picture you have the skirt, the top and belt together, then in the multi-variations, you list the skirt separate, the belt separate, the top separate, each with separate prices. Same thing with the canisters mentioned. In the main picture, all the canisters. Then in each separate variation, just the one size at a time, each with separate prices.

Re: Featuring complimentary items in a listing?

You’ve been here long enough to know you can’t do this.

You are asking a question you know the answer to!

The answer is No.

Re: Featuring complimentary items in a listing?

Thanks again, Moo. Yeah, they are a killer to ship. Triple bubbled, boxed. PM #7 boxes. They are the 70's Lancaster County milk can canisters. Tallest one is 12.25" hi with lid and graduate down x 4 more. Haven't figured out yet what to do if someone would want all of them since they will be individually listed and already boxed. It is what it is. And the local PU won't work around here. Sorry if I am off topic, but thanks for the heads up. Need to get this stuff out of here!

Re: Featuring complimentary items in a listing?

I've seen so many, I thought it was Ebay legal.  Smiley Surprised

It's no different than sellers saying, please tell me you want insurance and I will send you an invoice, or I am not responsible for any damage or for non receipt of your item, etc.  It happens.

Thank you.

Re: Featuring complimentary items in a listing?

Yes you can do promotions like this using the promotion manager which is a free tool that comes with your store subscription.

You would be setting up a promotion that might give free shipping or reduced shipping or even a percentage off when the buyer purchases a minimum number of items that are part of the promotion.   You would be selecting the items that qualify for the promotion.

As an example you could do an entire category like dresses, shoes and hand bags as all items in these three categories in my store  will get 10% off when you buy any two items in the promotion.

Buyer can click links that take them to special sales pages that show only the items in the promotion.  They can also see different promotions that you might be running at the same time from one page.

Here is a link to learn more about the eBay Promotion Manager  -  Click Here

Good Luck Selling!
