If ebay is claiming that they are now going to believe top rated sellers when a seller reports a false snad..

i don't see how refunding 6 dollars of the.. return shipping fee that the seller had to pay because of the buyer claiming snad is a protection..  it softens the blow. sure.. but if in fact ebay is protecting sellers.. then they need to refund the FULL amount that the seller was charged on every FALSE snad..   I can't believe more sellers haven't complained about this...

Two things stick out to me.

1. Return label shipping credit for a faulty SNAD case which is good, but $6 limit? Most things ship for more than $6 so where is a $6 credit getting me on say a $30 shipment?

2. They are now charging to list on ebay motors when before you could list for free for your first 5 car/truck listings in a years time. Now its $25 minimum.

Simple. Sell china garbage for less than 8 ounces of shipping charges.

I have a question. When what and how does eBay plan to protect sellers like you've been saying for years now?

Looks like the "Promoted Listings" became officially, mandatory,

no way is that true....

Look at your dash. If you want the visibility you had before for the listing fee you will need to promote the listings.

I think some people subconsciously skip over listings labeled as promoted. Before it didn't matter because we would have our normal listing where would naturally rank as well. But now our natural listing won't be there and so if somebody has a tendency to visually skip over anything labeled as promoted it will actually hurt us to pay for promoted.

When I was still buying here I didn't subconsciously bypass the promoted listings, I literally and purposely scrolled right past them.

I've always found those duplicates annoying when I search for an item, so this is an improvement.  I can guess, though, which listing will be chosen for removal since the fees are only charged if the purchase is from the promoted listing.

The statement about which will be shown stumps me since the listings are identical, other than the ad rate on the promoted one.

It doesn't stump me. If you pay, you get seen. If you don't, you don't get seen.

I purposely won't buy promoted listings. I never have used one for my listings. Call it my quiet way of rebelling, and not caring for sellers who buy into the program.

they appear to work though.  i put almost all of my stuff on promoted listings this year with a 1% fee.  at its peak sales were up 70% over last year while the market was down -10%+. currently sitting at +51.7%/-10%+.

do i like that i apparently have to do it?  no.  do i like the massive boost in sales (and money in my pocket)? yes, yes i do.

The dash numbers are bull**bleep**. You're paying more for the same visibility you had a year ago.

$6 is lipservice. The only sellers that benefit are Chinese.

Finally an UPDATE with NO NEW FEES!

nope no new fees …. but the update does say that if we promote listings they will remove the doubles so …. in effect we are paying promoted listing fees in order to replace our naturally falling listing placement (which will now not be shown).

The problem with this policy is that if a buyer clicks on the promoted listing and  then purchases the item anytime in the next 30 days, the seller is charged the additional promoted fee. Here is Ebay's exact policy statement.

"A Promoted Listings fee is charged based on the ad rate selected by the seller.

Ad rate is the percentage of an item's final sale price (excluding shipping and taxes), and is only charged when a buyer clicks on the promoted listing and purchases the promoted item within 30 days of that click. The fee is based on the ad rate that was in effect when the promoted listing was first clicked."

If a buyer clicks on a non-promoted listing for the same item, then no additional fees are due Ebay. By removing the non-promoted listing from search results it will further increase the stream of promoted listing fees coming to Ebay by preventing potential buyers from seeing/buying the non-promoted listings.

THIS IS A MAJOR CONFLICT OF INTERESTS!! While I do not like the cluttered search result, that is what Ebay created with promoted listings. Part of the reason a seller uses promoted listings is to get that additional exposure, not to have their chance to sell their items without additional fees like every other seller taken away. This policy change will now actually penalize sellers using promoted listings.

Ironically, I  just started a number of promoted listing yesterday to see if they actually really improve sales. I may have to rethink the whole idea of using them now. This just another example of Ebay's reactive response to another problem they created for sellers.

in addition, if you use bulk edit be very careful.  bulk edit is changing the promoted listing percentage to 7% automatically without a bit of influence by the seller.

I may not have to deal with that as it looks like I may be ending my promoted listings. No sense in paying extra to get the same search exposure I was already getting without the extra fees

Whenever they fix one problem they create two or more problems of equal or greater magnitude!

Look carefully ... Category Changes may result in increased or decreased fees, if your listings are moved automatically by eBay.
