Check where they are located. I'm betting on Sri Lanka. They have been posting on the boards for awhile but not on this board so you might not have seen them. The boards they were mostly posting on has been closed so I guess they found their way here.

Someone must give them a list of questions to ask.

UGH

Now there will be a steady stream of that to wade through..

Why can't eBay make a board for newbies: "If you're new to selling start here"?

Add some sticky posts, video links and the caveat that you cannot sell from Sri Lanka and TADA!

Seems pretty simple & proactive to me..

They did have some boards called New To Ebay Getting Started and New To Ebay Buying and Selling Basics. That was where most of the Sri Lanka people posted. Then in the restructuring they closed those boards so I guess they have found their way here.

Some days the whole first page of those boards would be various Sri Lanka people asking the same questions over and over and giving out bunches of helpfuls and choosing their own posts as Solutions.

Since they cannot use PayPal to accept payments in their country they will have to wait and hope that Ebay and Payoneer can get something worked out so they can get into Managed Payments.

I can honestly say in that case eBay should not have tried to "fix" what wasn't broke.

Sometimes change just for sake of change does more damage than good..

Thank you for that info.

Re: Fake posts about selling to distract attention from the serious issues?

Those repetitive phony “how to I sell” should be redirected away from this seller board

And deleted from here!

Can’t stand them!

They waste my time even as I try to ignore them…

How on ebay sell? 😆 - yeah, seen them...everyday anymore.

Re: Fake posts about selling to distract attention from the serious issues?

There was just one I saw before, the usual 'how do I sell' - checked the listings and seems they know exactly how to sell - my reply 'By doing what you have done and list items'

Advertising maybe ??? Pretty pointless IMHO

They eliminated all the "new to ebay" boards.

There is nothing nefarious here, no conspiracy. I suspect these posters from Sri Lanka have been sold a bill of goods by someone hawking how easy it is to sell on eBay, and been told there is some advantage to posting on the forums.

Fake posts about selling to distract attention from the serious issues?

I am certainly supposedly distracted by "3 supposed "newbie " posts."

What are the serious issues again?

Re: Fake posts about selling to distract attention from the serious issues?

Well, actually.

The Sri Lankan members can sell here.

They just can't get paid.

And the problem is between Paypal and the government of Sri Lanka.

But they can buy and pay using Paypal.

I tried to figure out why Sri Lanka banned accepting PP in transactions, but the few news articles I found were too immersed in internal Sinhalese politics to understand.

Because they've been told that activity on these boards -- starting threads, replying, giving and getting Helpfuls, being credited with Solutions, and earning Badges for all that -- creates bona fides for them as sellers, evidence of legitimacy and reputation, while also increasing their visibility as sellers.  (Untrue, of course.)

Oh katz, you've missed all the fun all last year! The SL folks only come out at night! They were very busy on the now closed board " new to ebay", busy busy! A lot of us did answer them, explained till blue in the face. Poor kensgiftshop bless his heart, this turned into a full time job! He wrote a great post about it ( you can pull it up under " what's the deal with these SriLankas" .

I feel bad for them and those government rules they have, it's very sad as some just want to sell trinkets.
