Anybody else experiencing this?.
FB Marketplace keeps getting more traction and orders keep coming in.
Posting items on eBay 1st used to be my priority and then I would leave the cheaper items for FB Marketplace but for the last 3,4 months, I have seen an steadily growth in demand and orders from FB Marketplace, so I am shifting my posting priorities..
FB is really appealing, not only because fees are way lower but it also seems more self regulated.

And honestly, that will need to change/evolve and I predict it will sooner vs later. You can list an item on FB, ask for offers, interact, sell it and then never notify FB mktplace it sold and pay no fees. There are reddit forums dedicated to telling you/showing you how.
How long do you predict that will continue without FB Mktplace wanting their piece of the pie?

Well I am strictly talking about them building up the whole Online/shipping Marketplace Machine.
99% Of my business on FB marketplace are ONLINE/SHIPPING orders, I don't mind paying the 5% Fee as it is right now.
They are implementing their buyer protection, I have had 547 online orders so far and ONLY 2 OF THOSE ORDERS were disputed by buyers and FB issued a refund for them, but guess what?. FACEBOOK COVERED THOSE REFUNDS. I still got paid.
THEY JUST NEED TO GET RID OF THOSE SCAMMY ADDS/POST and they are, for the last 3,4 months I have seen far less of these SCAM Posts.

I am talking about the same........droves of people are using it right now, presumably to avoid the fees or reduced fees. Once that changes, how popular will it actually be? Think it is a short time away from having to be more structured, different fees that now, etc.

It was just announced today that eBay snagged Facebook Head of Commerce Eddie Garcia to come back to eBay as Chief Product Officer replacing Pete Thompson at the end of this month.....should be interesting to see what effect that has on both marketplaces.

Odd. That's not what I see.
Facebook Marketplace=gross waste of time, many want to know if it's still available, but no one will come get it.
eBay=sells what it sells, does fairly well, people buy and pay and are happy. Therefore, I am happy.

Also, eBay tells me what the fees are, they don't wait and then threaten me with "I should pay them money if I wanted people to actually see my items".

Right now I mostly just use it for stuff I don't want to sell here to sell locally or occasionally ship it out.
I believe Facebook will at some point raise their fees. They've made a few changes since last I used it, but was still really buggy at that time at least. Might not be an issue now, but would constantly have issues just changing the price or update the listing in some way for instance. Wouldn't let me and you can't just recreate the listing because it would sometimes not let you delete it for some reason. And you can't use the same photos because it does a hash check on them and says these photos are used in a different listing. So now you have to modify the photos a little.
In any event, once they get a lot of their kinks worked out. I think they'll at least double the fees. I suppose they could do what CraigsList does and I think only charge for listings in San Francisco and it's mostly free elsewhere. But the way it is now with free and 5%. They are probably at best breaking even on the marketplace. Could even be losing money.
Having said that, they probably can afford to break even or lose money (and continue to break even to keep people using the marketplace) because they'll be making money off of you based on what you're browsing for and buying.
Facebook makes tons of money off of ads and selling your data. Noticed you're looking at or buying a lot of furniture on Facebook lately. They might start showing you ads for furniture stores. Or drill down to the type of furniture and see it's mostly baby stuff. So maybe they'll start showing ads for baby furniture or clothes or whatever else is baby related. Whatever makes sense for their AI. Not to mention third parties will get that data and use it somehow.

FB Marketplace is fine for selling local, heavy items, furniture, household items, items too costly to ship, and it may work well for some folks for awhile, but it's not the end all be all high praises site... when one considers all the scammers there, and the potential buyers bring a lot of no-shows/time wasters..
FBMarketplace has just as many issues/problems as any other selling venue.
FB Marketplace has nothing going for it beyond local until it sets up its fee structure... .if it survives that long..

The only way I have sold on FB is by posting in a specialized group. Didn't involve FB at all. Sold in an hour for a good price. Used PP via invoice so fees extremely low and gave the buyer confidence. There are many specialized groups on FB some allow sales, some don't.

Other negative Facebook has is not being able to do returns for online transactions. Yeah, I know we as sellers hate returns. But it's like a warm blanket for a lot of buyers. It may change at some point. But until you can do returns, I don't think Facebook will really be able to grow.

I would never, ever sell on FB Marketplace if only because I don't trust that they aren't harvesting all sorts of data on me and what I'm selling.

Remember how cheap an Uber ride was back when it started up. Slowly the obligations of the real world kicked in and now Uber is twice the cost of a yellow cab. Same thing will happen to Facebook Marketplace the demands of regulators and shareholder will drive up fees.

Not to mention that Facebook is notoriously non-secure. Security breach after security breach after security breach. Here's just one summary:

Except for the local stuff I can look at, most all the stuff I see with shipping, I would not buy anyway from that site even if I needed it. Not enough information in the ad along with many ads show it is like $5 to ship from across the country!! (Really, $5 to ship a refrigerator!) Sorry but if FB wants to break into online selling, they have a long way to go. I have listed a couple of things on the Market Page, was a real pain to even correspond with potential buyers.
