I just sold an item today (Thurs) and I have 2 day handling (I double checked the listing). I'm able to drop it off tomorrow so I went to print the label for it, noticed the "expected delivery date" says Monday March 11th. It's being sent from FL to NM via Priority Mail. Even when I print the label it says 3 days on it. So please tell me how they come up with that "expected delivery date" (with 2 day handling and clear across the country)??

I really wish they wouldn't give that information to the buyers. It makes us look bad when that doesn't happen. I actually changed my handling from 1 to 2 days because of the ridiculous expected by dates they were giving, but it doesn't seem to be helping (as this example shows).

I've had so many buyers complain about estimated delivery dates I've lost count. ebay gives them one unrealistic estimate before they even buy anything. Then they throw another unrealistic one after the item is shipped.

I've literally had buyers flip out over it, call me and scream at me because they didn't get the item by the date ebay told them they would. Its the whole reason I wont disclose a phone number for buyers to reach me anymore, because of **bleep** like this.

I only offer 2 day handling as well, tired of ebay dinging me with defects despite items be shipped on time. USPS doesn't scan on time, and its magically the seller's fault. Just last Monday I dropped off 6 games at the post office at 5am. They weren't scanned in until 4pm.

I am confused by these estimated delivery dates provided by eBay to the buyer. I sold something last night (Thursday 3/7 at 6:30pm Eastern time, 9:30 ebay time) going to Michigan from Maryland, Priority. I have 2 day handling, my ebay USPS label shows 3 day. Estimate to buyer is March 12. I thought shipping was calculated using business days, not Saturday & Sundays? I plan to ship it tomorrow (Saturday). I have USPS pick it up by Noon Saturday. I am going to change my handling for future sales to 3 days.

I guess I will have to change my handling to 3 days. Unrealistic delivery days just upset customers, so why do it?? If someone really needs an item fast they are usually willing to pay extra for faster shipping. But when Ebay is showing them such a quick delivery on regular shipping and then it doesn't happen, it just leads to problems. I wish we could set our own "expected delivery dates".

In the example in my first post the "expected delivery date" is even before my "ship by" date. I'm not offering overnight shipping, but they are estimating like I am. Very frustrating!

I've said this before: I've always lived in metro areas with very reliable and huge sort centers so my packages don't get hung up (kow) and it doesn't take an extra day to get from a rural location to a distribution center.

I've always had 2-day handling but usually, almost always, mail the next day so my estimated and fast and frees were not feasible; the only way I made the dates was, see above, super efficient USPS in my areas.

For no reason other than I-am-not-going-to-do-this-anymore, I stopped shipping altogether on Saturdays. And I noticed that did make a difference in those estimated dates; it seemed to bump my delivery dates back by actually counting those 2 handling days.

I have no scientific proof of this, such as spread sheets with shipments and all that organized stuff, but I never see "your buyer expects this on Monday/Tuesday" when the widget was purchased on Friday.

(Disclaimer: I might see "Tuesday" if the widget is traveling only 30 miles or so.)

Did that make sense?

Does the expected delivery date that you are seeing when you print the label the same estimated delivery date that buyers will see in order details? Is it possible the shipping label date isn't the one the buyer sees??

I'm not sure, but I hope not. I would think this would go to them in the email that Ebay sends and it probably shows them the estimated day in the listing when they are purchasing. I don't see it any where on my order detail page. The only place I saw it was when I went to print the label:

eBay seems to have upwards of a half a dozen Estimated delivery dates on a listing/sale these days, but according to eBay in a recent thread here somewhere, although the EDD may change dynamically on the buyer's (and maybe seller's) view of the transaction as tracking indicates adjustments to the carriers EDD, the only one that counts is the original one locked in when the sale occurred.

This is what really annoys me. I don't want them to do this and I know I have no control over it. I adjusted my handling to show longer, so they would (I was hoping) show more reasonable delivery estimates, but it still doesn't matter. I guess it won't matter then if I change the handling to 3 days, because they are still going to show what they want to show,

It's so much better to have something deliver early, instead of being forced into missing delivery dates because I can't control the post office operations. I want a buffer. I would say 90% of the problems I run into is regarding those estimated dates. It's just very frustrating.

I have 3 day handling as a cushion to deter bad service metrics on my seller dashboard if some delay(health, weather, internet/power outage) should occur, but because I historically ship same/next day my listing can show up as GD(not opted in), or with unrealistic delivery expectations shown to the buyer.

A sale today, with a Wednesday shipping date, will show as expected by 1st Class USPS on Thursday several states away.

It's been said that Ebay goes by when you historically ship, so if you have, say, four days, but ship in one, Ebay figures it based on shipping in one day.

So to me this means adjusting your handling is worthless, which shouldn't be the case. If I, as the seller want to add a few days buffer in for happier customers I should be able to do this. Once again this is out of my control. I guess I could start shipping in 2 days instead of 1, but then I don't really have the buffer there either because then I'm dependent on the post office to come through, which as we all know can be iffy.

And I just looked at my sold page for the item I am shipping out tomorrow that I described upthread: it says item shipped on 3/8. Not. Label was cut on 3/8. Ship is tomorrow 3/9?

Ebay probably wants the buyer to expect it earlier as they may want that, but choosing to have a buffer is prudent, IMO. Better to delight when the item gets there faster than expect, than to disappoint when it gets there later when complying with your handling time, IMO.

Suppose for some reason beyond your control you cannot ship in one day, say, but your handling time is three days. If you take three days, technically, you are not wrong, but if Ebay bases it on your historical shipping of one day, then the delivery will be off. Possibly they figure that most likely you won't need to take the whole handling time but will ship sooner.
