I get eBay's policy; however, let's cite a specific - where a sale is made for a local pick-up only item that will understandably involve closer communication to work out the delivery / pick-up specifics than is generally achieved by constantly sending messages back and forth. Had I not gotten a buyer's phone number following a sale of a bike that I arranged to deliver to him in the parking lot of a local walmart - not sure we would have found each other! Sudden changes in the date and time could easily arise, and I just don't see what the problem is of having a much faster means of communication than going through ebay messages. Thoughts on this? Recently a buyer said he tried to send me his email address (another local pick-up deal for an item I already sold to him) and he said eBay "wouldn't allow him to send it"? So I sent him mine - appeared to go right through. I guess the issue is that eBay has no means of distinguishing between when an item has sold and when it hasn't with regards to the communications policy. If so, this seems a bit of a weakness. At this point in my transaction, they are assured of getting their final value fee, so what's the problem of increasing the communication methods between buyer and seller?

There is no issue. eBay provides the buyers email and phone number on the View Sale screen. Though, a buyer can request not to have that posted or not provide the phone number, than you would not get it unless they give it to you.

Where is that info located? Can't find anything. I can access the invoice that was sent to the buyer, but where is the "view sale" screen you refer to?

Go to Sellers Hub, and tic 'Orders', you will see under 'order details' a small transaction number, click on that.

While the phone number and private email address is available to you after a sale happens. It is in your best interest and that of your buyer's to keep ALL communication within the Ebay system. Do not allow them to text you or email you outside of Ebay.

A seller has to opt into wanting to show their phone number
It is in account settings
And if a seller allows the phone number to be shown the buyer would need to know to look for it under Other in the Contact Sellers section

There is another way, using the dropdown tab next to an order you will have a link called "View Record" (Sorry I misstated its name before), than it will take you to the page I referenced above.

Yes I agree, there have been many instances that a buyer has tried to contact us directly with the intent of scamming us. We do not have any conversations over the phone about a sale.

That is good. But you shouldn't just have that policy for phone calls. Texts to your phone or emails to you private account are also something you should do. None of those will be considered by Ebay if a problem arises. They will only consider the communications inside of Ebay. So it is in both the Buyers and the Sellers best interest to keep everything inside of Ebay.
