Strange encounter with a low baller. When I reviewed his feedback, I noticed identical feedbacks from different eBayers. Three different eBay users left identical feedback for this person.
What's the simple explanation for this? It seems fishy and before I start thinking this eBay users has padded their feedback in some sort of closed loop circle, I was curious if there was a reasonable explanation?

No conspiracy. Not even slightly controversial. Maybe a little unoriginal...
It waters down the feedback feature if everyone gets the "Great eBayer. Prompt payment. Good communication. A+++++" comment. Especially when you require immediate payment for BIN. Never communicated with the buyer. And all they really did was click a button.
Maybe the feedback should read "Excellent button clicker. Never said a word to them as a customer. But they clicked that Buy it Now button like an expert"

You're over thinking things!!!
You and the last 13 people that responded.
Does anyone read the responses, or do they read the first message and jump right into the reponse?

As a buyer, I don't worry too much about feedback, because it can only be positive. A lot of sellers don't leave any, and I accept it as being what it is.
But a lot DO leave it, and I appreciate it. Even if it is an automatic submission, it tends to symbolically " close" the transaction.
I will add the comment that I further appreciate sellers who leave custom feedback, as it implies a degree of sincerity. So if you do that as a seller - thank you.

but it's all "custom" feedback... literally, that's all it can be. You have to type the feedback response even if you don't actually type it in every single time but use a feedback you created for buyers and select it from list of custom feedbacks you made or if left via auto feedback - it's all custom.
As a seller, I appreciate buyers who return feedback... I don't ask for it, I know it's not required, but I leave it for every single buyer the moment the shipping label is created.

A lot of the feedback I see seems to be customary feedback that is held over from the days long gone of eBay. eBay, over the years, has morphed into a intermediary that automates nearly every part of the process.
I hate to say it, but we used to have to communicate with buyers and sellers. I used to check the mailbox for postal money orders for items I sold on eBay. Buyers and sellers would communicate with each other on many aspects of the transaction. From payment, shipping, etc.
Now it's all electronic and automated. But we still leave feedbacks that imply that we know more about the counterparty than we really do. I never communicate with most of my customers. eBay does that for me now. But you'll see "Great communication" as a common feedback statement. There was no communication. How do we know they're great? They paid. Good for them. Like I said, they clicked a button.
"Great communication and excellent transaction. Great eBayer. A+++++"
Nah. They paid. That's it. If anything was excellent about the transaction was that there was no return fraud.
LOL
I digress.

Nuclearomen.... Yeah, its " custom", in that someone wrote the original quote and stuck it into the system. But from there on, " great buyer A++++++!!!" loses its luster as a " custom" feedback when it gets stuck into my feedback by a bot, rather than the seller saying. "Thank you spark- chaser for your purchase, I am glad you like your ( insert item) and hope to do business with you again soon!
Ultimately, its all good, I guess, because as a buyer, its pretty much delegated what a seller can say so it still has less impact. I appreciate it either way, as a lot of sellers elect not to leave any at all, and I'm fine with that too.
Bamorris... I totally get what you are saying and I agree. In the end, though, my main concern is receiving what I bought. If the seller checks off all of the boxes in the transaction EXCEPT feedback, I'm fine with that. Not everyone nowadays can find the time to extend simple courtesies, be it online or in face-to-face interactions. It is unfortunate, but there it is.

It makes it sterile and meaningless if you go to my feedback page and see that I leave the same comment for every buyer.
Sterile, maybe. Meaningless, not necessarily.
Here's a kick in the head... my 'saved' response is (more) for a seller's benefit as well as to praise my buyer. It reads:
"Love the buyer who wants it, pays fast and leaves feedback! Glad you liked it!"
I often check a buyer's received feedback... something like this ^^^ tells sellers they pay and will tell about it afterward.

I appreciate the intellectual honesty in your "saved response".

@spark-chaser1 i get that...the "great buyer A+++" - i don't leave that kind of stuff, but I have tons of feedback from buyers who leave just that...just says "Great Seller A+++" - i don't care really, just happy to see someone leave feedback at all. I would say 80% do not as estimate... if everyone left feedback I'd have 5k - but i understand not every does...I have buyers been here since 2002 or whatever and look and they never left feedback ever for any seller.
I get that it's redundant - and many leave a early era feedback like you stated... but at same time, at least they left something. My feedbacks are pre-written saved I select based off the buyer...for instance, if a new buyer I leave : "🤘 Paid Fast, Easy Transaction, Thank You & Check out the store again! 🤘" if it's a repeat buyer I leave: "🤘 Recommended - Great Ebay Buyer, Thanks For Continued Support! 🤘" and if it's a repeat buyer that orders a lot I leave: "💀🤘EXCELLENT Ebay Buyer! Always Great Transactions! Pleasure to Deal With! 🤘💀" - granted I leave these for everyone yes, but at least it's better then "Great Buyer A+++" or "Great Buyer, Great Communication blah blah" - cause quite frankly there is usually no communication at all, they order, I ship. The point is, don't want to write paragraph, a mini story, or anything else annoying but I don't want to leave no feedback or a very generic one like you mentioned.
In the end my prices are fair, ship promptly, package stuff extremely well, and my buyers are happy.
04-08-2023 02:16 PM
That is an excellent submission, because realistically, I'd think that was a custom feedback, as it relates to this discussion.
The , "###EXCELLENT EBAYER A+++++///$$$\\\\ " , not so much. That is a " tied my shoes" feedback, LOL.
I'm thinking the main concern is the sincerity of a feedback, which means a lot to some people.
With feedback, it has been seen time and time again that there will never be a right answer. This will be overthought and overthought again for as long as there will be a feedback system. Its a circular issue.
With me, as long as I got my stuff, that IS MY true feedback. Some of my best transactions ended without me receiving feedback from the seller, and I survived.

Nuke- you don't have to justify yourself to me. You sound like a great seller, and you're a valuable member here. Like I was saying, there is no right answer when it comes to feedback. Its all good.

wasn't to you specifically, just saying I get your point on the old generic feedback...so just wound up stating the ones I leave..which I feel are better then that "Great Buyer...." stuff. There is no right answer but leaving something is still better then nothing. I never understood sellers who don't leave it for their buyers. Aside if you don't leave it ebay then bombards you with emails. I didn't leave feedback on those because buyer ordered then immediately asked to cancel and I did..but not leaving feedback for it.

LOL... just to illustrate my own personal thoughts as to leaving feedback, any one looking at feedback I have left for sellers will wonder how I'm finding the time to write an individual, differently- worded feedback for each of 30 or more items I bought in a single shipment... And this is when i know the seller only gets ONE credit for it.
I appreciate the time the seller takes to ship my order, and I acknowledge that there is a lot involved, so I like to do my part and take a minute or two to say thank you, job well done.
LOL... different strokes for different folks. I just try to keep some personality in an impersonal realm.

@bamorris - You're making assumptions that aren't necessarily accurate and YOU are implying that YOU know more about "all" sellers than you do.
I write my own feedback comments in my own words though most of those I leave are similar to others that I've left. However I do communicate with my buyers, even knowing that my own communication will allow them to ding my "communication DSR."
My communication thanks them for their purchase and payment and tells them that their package will go out today/tomorrow.
Some buyers thank me for my reply and/or they email me when they receive their item. In those cases, I do often refer to their great communication in the feedback I leave for them. (And for the record, I never say "great communication" if they've never communicated!)
