End of Speed Pak?

Is this the end of the China Speed Pak shipping scheme?  Is it finally going to cost more to ship something from China?

I hate having to compete with Chinese sellers because of the Speed Pak shipping.  It's not fair that it costs me more to ship someone something in the US than it does for them to order it from China.

Can someone let me know if they've heard anything about this?  I heard the President signed something about getting rid of the "small" parcel no tariff thing.

@movieman630

Are you speaking about the new "tariff" charges that are supposed to go in effect today?  It is going to cost the "customer" more money to obtain these products.  It is my understanding that goods coming from Canada or Mexico will cost the buyer an additional 25% fee (collected by customs) while Chinese goods will be 10%.   I don't think this has anything to do with "shipping" per se.

The tariffs do not impact shipping services.  But the tariff will probably be imposed on each item.

The SAME people who complain about unfair competition from foreign sellers are the SAME people complaining about somebody finally trying to do something about it.

Give tariffs a chance.

Just watch for a minute.

I love tariffs.  I'm hoping China won't be able to compete with us anymore.  There's no reason America can't manufacture everything again.  It's way past time for us to pull back from international trade.  Foreign goods used to be a luxury because of tariffs.  I can't wait for a return to those days again.  I'm ready for short term pain.  It will be worth it.

sadly, if 'everything' was made here again, tariffs won't be the ONLY problem with our purchasing dollar.

A light bulb would cost you $20 instead of $6.

A Seat Cover would cost $150 instead of $30

A 'graphic T' will cost $25 instead of $8 at Walmart

on and on

Your dollar will be worth .25c in 3 short years compared to what that same $1 buys you now.

I believe that as well. Our country is flooded with cheap crap from overseas.

People are crying real tears over the thought of things being more expensive imported from other countries due to  possible tariffs.

A $30 shirt made here that lasts for years is a better deal than two $20 dollar shirts that fall apart within a few washings. This throw away economy is bad for consumers if they would stop to think about it.

Previously good brands have out-sourced their manufacture overseas and are now crappy and cheaply made. I'll gladly pay more for their product if they bring manufacture back and sell a quality product again.

Essentials like medicine not being made here puts us at the mercy of countries that don't like us and gives them leverage over us.

   Sorry for the mini rant............................................

Not to mention you never hear anything from people concerned about the climate when it comes to how much garbage we produce in this world.

I bought a hand truck from Lowes made by "Milwaukee" tools.  The second time I used it to move something one of the wheels broke off.  The bracket that held on the wheel was made of plastic.  A part of the tool that gets the most stress put on it was made of plastic.  Can't fix it.  Ends up in a landfill.

I used one that was probably made in the 1950s.  A little ugly but, made of American steel and wheels still turned.

Don't even get me started on toilet seats.  I moved into a house where the toilet seat was probably 30+ years old.  When I had a child who needed a toilet seat I bought the Potty training seats.  Well I ended up putting a new seat on at least once a year.  Total junk.  Hinges made of plastic or weak pot metal.

I spent probably a couple hundred bucks on toilets seats.  I'd have paid $100 for one that would last 30 years, gladly.

Quality doesn't take much more time and labor.  Right now we're getting ZERO quality.  We bring back standards in manufacturing here in the states and it may cost more.  But it will last longer.  Remember "REPAIRMEN"?  Yeah, that was a job.

The dollar will survive.  And everything will equalize after some growing pains.  I liken it to a detox from a drug addiction.  Americans have been addicted to cheap imported junk for too long.  Restoring a country to thrive on tariffs, exotic import trade and domestic production is going to come with a very painful detox period.  Prepare, endure and we'll all make it to the other side better than ever.

I don't understand what is so hard to understand that ... if we do NOTHING ... if we keep doing what Sleepy Joe and his merry troupe of commies want us to do, your dollar will be worth twenty five cents in three short years.

That is a sure thing.

So, we got leaders who are doing SOMETHING DIFFERENT.

Lets take a deep breath and ... after thirty years of doing it wrong ... let's see what happens, now.

Wadda ya'll say?

Temu and Shein...what are they doing?....just what Amazon does...have warehouses in the USA that sell items direct from USA in USA.

The Chinese will get around the tariffs...

Yea........We needed a new washing machine. I wanted a Speed Queen made in Wisconsin. She insisted on a cheaper one. I'll be replacing it in a couple of years or so no doubt.

"Testing engineers at the factory run machines constantly to ensure they meet the company's durability claims."... is something I just read in another window when I googled Speed Queen. There's a reason a lot of laundromats use them.

More expensive but repairable IF they break down and my late mother told me she considered them a 30 year machine at least.

and, maybe that light bulb will last ten years instead of one,

and the seat cover won't tear out at the seams in one year, maybe it'll take five,

and a t shirt at walmart won't be covered in carcinogens.

They're killing us in more ways that one.

@movieman630Checking sourcing and NOT buying cheap rubbish is one of the first things on the agenda for people concerned about climate change.  But thats sooo un-PC now, anyway. However, even with USA manufacture we have to source a lot of parts from overseas, and tarriffs will still cause inflation. But likely this is just a lot of chest-beating cosplay, and I dont believe a damm thing these politicians spout. We're in an oligarchy, and oligarchs only work for oligarchs.

Hell is empty. And all the devils are here.
