A while back amazon copied etsy by trying to push the handmade market, ebay followed suit. They even created a whole new section for this. While this is ripe for abuse I see potential to help sellers who actually make their own goods by allowing them to crowdfund by marketing ideas not to banks but to their subscribers and followers. In other words a seller creates a campaign which is marketed to those who are already interested in your work. Traditional financing is not available to all, especially with the state of the economy and all the fraud that went on creating a massive $31T debt. $5 here and there can help a crafter immensely. There's room for growth and it enables buyers to become part of something and help bring products to market or even commision products. I see real possibilities. Starting a campaign on gofundme or kickstarter would not be the same as if a seller like myself could work in house to market my product ideas to people who are actually interested in purchasing something unique. Ebay used to be about collecting, well this is a way to encourage that again. Bankers only care about bottom lines and antiquated measuring techniques and have literally spent decades employing predatory lending practices. This cuts out the middle men(banks, crowdfunding sites like gofundme kickstarter etc)and brings the seller and buyer together.

I don't see Ebay getting into something like that.......it would certainly have to be policed to prevent fraud....and we all know they don't do a terrific job as it is on this site now.

Kickstarter + social media marketing (done right) would achieve what you're looking for, but it would require more work or hiring a VA to handle the social for you. I assume you're trying to avoid the more work/expense part? (No snark - serious question.)

eBay would just want to take 12.9% plus 30 cents of every contribution 🤣
