Ebay sending wrong offers to buyers

Yeah, this is now the third time this has happened to me. I made an offer to prospective buyers for an item, checked to make sure the right amount was listed (in this case $140), and sent it out. Then apparently ebay sent the offer at $14!  So obviously someone bought it right away and paid for it. I sent a message to the buyer explaining the situation, and now have to wait and hope this person is understanding and will cancel the order.  I called the ebay "help" line, and was told that if the buyer does not agree then I should just send it for $14.  Not gonna happen - I would take about $150 loss on this transaction, as I was already asking for less than I paid originally.  I'm wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem.  Ebay of course claims that they've never heard of this before (even though I've reported it twice before already).

Thanks for the tag @pburn there's no known issue currently where the offer amount is off. If you cancel for the wrong reason like "problem with buyer's address" your account can be actioned for circumventing the cancelation flow.

The OP should reach out to CS, if there's a known issue at the time then we will work with them to make sure it doesn't impact them negatively. Thanks!

Tell you what, next time I see it (and I send 30 offers a day), I will post a screen shot that your site does not recognize all the characters I inputted into the offer field.

There is a glitch, it's happening to way too many people in here, and if I wasn't so busy working I would have posted a screen cap as proof that there is actually a glitch.

I'm sure it will happen again, I send out the wrong offer every once in a while, but now I'm not so sure it's my typing that's off.

Never had the problem though it seems easy to mix up price and percentage (which I don't think you did).

If I caught a mistake like this, I'd immediately cancel the sale, wait a couple weeks, then relist after the dust settled.

I heard about this in a YouTube video. May want to verify with eBay. But the video and/or comments said you're allowed to cancel as I think problem with buyer address if this happens to you.

Edit... Scratch that. This says can cancel as buyer request. But again. Would verify with eBay.

Here's the video of Auction Professor talking about it. He says use Buyer Address. To late to edit, so disregard the screenshot I previously posted.

It happened to me to! I sent $45 and buyer got offer for $4! I checked straight away and cancelled it before the buyer could accept the offer. If it continues to happen stop sending offers till it gets fixed. I don't have time to check every one I send. No don't send at $14 even if you get dinged its not good to lose your profit over a glitch. I have to disagree with the rep who told you to honor the sale and send it. Its not your fault and they should clear any ding if you cancel.

A ebay computer glitch that took the "0" off of $140

-or-

an error/typo on the users behalf?

That's a tough one.

Ebay DOES NOT change prices. Be more careful next time.

How exactly do you plan to proceed if the buyer isn't understandable?
Because you are risking the eventual loss of your account by not shipping what the buyer agreed to pay.  Ebay doesn't give  many chances, 2 or 3 and you're out.

Why is everyone ruling out the possibility that it might, just maybe be a mistake or a typo?

There is nothing wrong with making a mistake or a typo.  We all do it.  Even me.

I'm not sure why the buyer would not be understandable. There's no indication in any of the OP's posts that the buyer is a non-English speaker.

Talking about the loss of the OP's account is premature. The potential loss of $126 on this transaction may be worth the potential defect on his/her account.

I'm not sure I'd take the advice of some rando off YouTube or wherever. Let's check with the Community Team members for their advice.

Is this a known issue with offers? Have other sellers been reporting this experience? How should the OP handle this? Is the YouTube guy correct from Messages 3 and 4 above that a seller can use "problem with buyer's address" if this happens?

Thanks!

Ebay sending wrong offers to buyers

I use this feature extensively & have since it was available.  I sent 250 offers over the last few days.  I have NEVER had the amount be wrong unless I either made a typo OR I forgot to change the percentage/amount dropdown.  BEWARE the dropdown RETAINS the last one you used!  For me, I found the way to avoid problems with it is to never change it.  I ONLY use amount, so I don't make a mistake.

I do use a PC most of the time, but have also used the app quite a bit & never an error with either one, that could not be traced back to me.   This one screams of either a typo or a case where there is a lag from keyboard to screen.

I send at least 5 offers a day and this has never happened.

Even if you put in the wrong amount or the wrong percentage off, it doesn't automatically go through. You are shown the selling price offer that will be sent to potential buyers. Then you send the offer. So if there's an error, there's the opportunity to correct it.

My money is that it's the seller/OP's error.

Maybe instead of just typing in $140 type it in as $140.00.

I too send offers pretty regularly on certain types of items - not 250 + in 3 days....but about that many a month.

Have never experienced what the OP describes, but I always use my laptop, never the mobile app.

Doesn't it have you confirm the amount before you send it??  Need to go look closer at the total process on screen.

If this is the 3rd time, I would hold off on any offers for a while.
