Ebay permanently suspended my long-time open account the first time I sold an item. I have no recourse and no money and no explanation. Why?

     Not much information to work with and eBay generally gives you some indication why they suspended your account but they may not provide exact details. What did the message you received from eBay say and what exactly did you sell?

Is sold this......and it was paid.  I posted the item then got permanently suspended.

When I first called them they said it was because I'd just started selling and everyone was suspended on their first sale. When I questioned this the suspension became 'permanent'.  They closed my account and wouldn't speak to me.  I had just verified my bank account and I had verified my address.

I have had the account for 11 months and bought a dozen or so items without any problems.

Message says 'According to our records, your account has violated our site policies'.

I am totally baffled and pretty upset.

     First the call in customer support is pretty much useless these days. Try contacting eBay through the facebook connection.

     Difficult to guess as to why you got suspended other than the item may be VERO restricted. Not a lot of information out there about the company which I believe is Mörer Schiffselektronik. The other possibility is it falls under eBay's restricted items policy but from what I gather  you are in France so not sure of your countries laws with regards to the device. The following is from the prohibited items policy on eBay. 

The following types of electronic equipment are not allowed:

• Electronic items prohibited by government agencies, including cell phone, GPS radar, and other signal jamming devices. See the FCC's jammer enforcement for more information
• Traffic light control devices
• CB amplifiers and radio equipment that operates in both CB and HAM frequencies
• Odometer modification devices
• Equipment such as low power transmitting devices, high frequency transceivers, cordless telephones and radar detectors not authorized by the FCC
• Appliances for sale in California that do not meet applicable efficiency standards
• Surveillance items that are intended to photograph, or record the conversations or activities of others without their knowledge

OK so Ebay facebook told me to call customer support.

The electronic device is a genuine weather text receiver for sailing yachts and supported by international agencies.

They are running you in a circle. If eBay FB won't help, it is probably the end. 

Another reason for suspension could be from a previously suspended account used by you or a family member with the same address or even the same IP address.

Think about where you logged in to EBay from. Cafe? University? Friends house? Friend logging in on your WiFi?

Thanks, I only login from home and through a VPN.  If they have a problem with VPN's they'd probably be losing a lot of customers. It  hardly seems a reason for immediate expulsion.

I'd say it was their loss and just not bother, except they're holding the money from my sale.

I've regularly used a VPN to access my eBay account, including from abroad, and never any problems.  If eBay disallows everyone using a VPN, they're going to lose a lot of business - it's a pretty common and certainly nothing new.

to answer your question....no one knows.....we are all going to sit here and       "speculate"   !!    why?  because EBAY does not have any customer service.    nor do they care about sellers and really care to even get back to you.  "welcome to ebay"!

I hear quite a bit about VPN issues with Amazon selling accounts. Used to be prevalent over there. I don't frequent those boards much these days.  Could be particular VPN's.

Same here as there. AMZ and eBay both have too many sellers, why should they invest money to coddle them?

Would like to see eBay invest more attention to buyers.

Well that's just not true, they absolutely have customer service teams however they've made contacting them a fee-asko  (Get It.!?) Super Korney. But seriously there are ways to get ahold of customer service and fairly quickly when you need to reach out to them, And by far The Bay's Social Media Customer Service Team is the absolute best, and usually ends being a positive experience more often then not versus leaving you possibly frustrated even further and no answers.
