Ebay is too controlling True or False?

I am a member of 10+ years here and Im feeling like I dont even own my stuff I sell. The fees are getting too high, dont have any control of my listings with them adding best offers when they feel like it or charging shipping fees on top of already high shipping prices to ship our items, my fees are based on their messed up grading system and much more like no protection for us. REALLY@@!! I have ended all my listings and refuse to sell here anymore until who ever owns EBAY understands all you are doing is hosting our stuff and should charge only for that, paypal is a separate entity and does charge a small fee for their part, but it is within reason!!! We are not in school and dont need to be graded for higher fees, on stuff we own. All you need to do is host and add the paypal link in the ad. Thats it.

Why should We have to be graded period this is an online flea market not COLLEGE!! Im so glad you are happy with your monthly bill to them, I personally think for that kind of money for you I would have my own store for real.

I'm sorry but Ebay decided long ago they had to have standards so that badly performing sellers were not selling on Ebay, because if they were, they would be driving buyers off the site.

I don't know if you have had a bad experience with this grading, but if so, the decision to leave my be taken out of your hands.  Ebay might make that decision for you.  That sounds harsh, and I don't mean it that way.  It is just the way things are.

I'm a buyer.

Sellers are graded when they disappoint customers. If you break their rules and disappoint customers they raise your fees and give you a chance to fix your account. If you don't, you lose your privileges.

You can look at Ebay any way you want. What matters is how Ebay and the buyers look at Ebay. A great way to buy stuff and get what they pay for.

If you start your own site, better only take checks since the credit card rules will be just as strict as Ebay's rules.

Years ago, the seller was just gone.  Now they give a chance to improve and pull yourself out of the hole.

Re: Ebay is too controlling True or False?

Let's be fair tho - sellers are also being graded by buyers who just don't get their way and will lie to get back at a seller. I only have a 1.06 return rate ( knock on wood! ) and for the most part - I have honest buyers who admit they made a mistake as far as sizing. But.... I've seen an increase in false SNADs or neg/ neutral feedback because I won't give them a partial - just had one last week.

Yes, it's sad that buyers will abuse sellers in this fashion.  Revenge feedback is wrong no matter which side is posting it.  And false SNADS are just as wrong as fighting legitimate SNADS.

Wish we could all play nice.  Ethics.  Courtesy.

So the root of the problem is that for some reason you fell below standard and are angry and blame eBay?

I'm a buyer

castle - I love you - but have those standards already in place - prevented you from receiving all the substandard or not as described merchandise that you've received lately? There will always be bad sellers - no matter what rules Ebay puts in place - and there will always be bad sellers that know how to get out of that situation - as we've seen in the past. Who it's going to hurt is the small sellers who don't have the volume and make a mistake.

I'm all for protecting a buyer - but what's good for the goose is good for the gander - you need to protect your sellers from false claims - and other venues are doing that and are still succeeding. The buyers know the rules going in and those inclined to abuse a system like Ebay has in place - will avoid  that site - making it a better buying experience and a better selling experience.

Re: Ebay is too controlling True or False?

When talking to buyer who bought something on eBay and I ask them where they got it, the response is always I bought it on eBay.  Not from so and aso on eBay but I got it on eBay and they shipped it very fast or something like that.

There is a difference between "where'd you find that?" and "who did you buy that from?".

Buyers many times think they are buying from eBay and those who do know it is thord party sellers still blame eBay when a seller does not perform to there satisfaction.  We see it here all the time in the forum.

That's because eBay wants buyers to think they're buying from eBay, and because eBay does not do a very good job of being forthcoming with buyers that they are NOT buying from eBay.

The rest of that post is primarily propaganda.  All it needs now is "Lowest Fees Ever!".  Sellers have little control over anything, the right to say "Ouch!" when you get whacked over the head doesn't really count.  eBay is too controlling, and picking apart someone's listings who didn't ask for a critique doesn't change any of that.  If eBay charged for listings, substandard listings would go away.  Does adding Best Offer to them really help anything, or does it only encourage someone to buy a substandard listing?

Re: Ebay is too controlling True or False?

I just find it unfair that im getting charged higher fees for what? If I have had problems I always work them out with buyers, I just feel like ebay is expecting perfection, but hey nothing here is coming actually from the retailer, and you are gonna have issues that could arise from a buyer but everytime a buyer has a issue you got to admit they freaking go overboard, they are right automatically, yourpaypal account is on hold, you cant accept any monies from other buyers while you have a return or refund claim really!! Everything about ebay is too much is all im saying. Its becoming not fun anymore!!

I don't think that is entirely true.

Anyone who has come to ebay can understand the way sales are made here.

I mean, it's in the mission statement right?

Buy, Sell, etc...

Respectfully.
