I have been selling as a hobby on ebay since about 1999 and it used as a way to make some extra money for my hobbies. Now they have complicated the site and the IRS is involved with every transaction, not to mention the greed of the site that charges you a percentage on the state sales tax so they can line their own pockets.
I will be ending my dealing with site at the end of 2021 and not returning...
Its was a vey good site in the early days but corporate America and shareholders have ruined it.

EBay will not be the first US company to self destruct and it will certainly not be the last. Sear, GM, Caterpillar, Montgomery Ward, IBM...... all were once on top of their business areas but either failed to listen to their customers or made poor company decisions that lead to their downfall. EBay has demonstrated their ability, and it seems their determination, to do the same. EBay sells nothing and while one can argue the buyer/seller debate sellers are eBay's primary customers. The buyers are the sellers customers.
It is the seller who lists and posts the items and generates the revenue for eBay, buyers do the same for the sellers. A month could go buy without a single item being sold on eBay and eBay would still realize revenue from store fees, insertion fees, promoted listing fees............. While the sellers would suffer and not realize the same returns it is just the way eBay is setup with regards to revenue collection.
I believe the start of the spiral began with the conversion to MP and the divesture from PayPal which, by the way, has allowed PayPal to become the largest third party financial processor in the world. What the future holds is anyone's guess but at the moment eBay appears to be headed down the wrong road.

The IRS was involved all along. At least they were supposed to be.

I believe the spiral started when they pushed the product catalogue to imitate Amazon. Sure, it works maybe for New, but they tried and are still trying to jam everything into this product catalogue. This is not a one shoe fits all. They should have created a separate arm to accommodate vintage, antiques, collectibles et al. With this new fiasco hot mess at hand, still trying to force this catalogue. Shoving vintage glassware into a routine Kitchen category is just nuts. Pushing antique dolls into a generic mix of new and old is just stupid.

Hello, you left AT&T off of your list, another dying brand. I have been on here since 1999, but not much longer.
Good riddance!

Hello, the .30c transaction fee eBay charges for each sale is the same one Paypal used to charge. You know, the one we were going to save with managed payments. The only ones making anything now is eBay.

Ebay has made selling here so complicated and time consuming that it is driving sellers away by the droves. Ebay has become the selling platform from HELL!

Ebay can still recover.... but they are heading wrong direction and not stopping...
Wish to sell here forever, but with what's been happening may need to look for another place.

Agreed they do have the ability to recover but they need to do something to remain competitive in what has become a highly competitive ecommerce market. Increased shipping cost/delays and the addition and collection of sales tax (not their fault) have also leveled the ecommerce market and B&M stores. I seldom buy here anymore simply because I can find it cheaper elsewhere which is often a B&M store where I don't have to worry about shipping cost, delays or damage and returns are simple.
I always look at eBay's quarterly reports and the 2021 second quarter report was a bit of a surprise with regards to the decrease not in the number of active sellers but the drop in the number of active buyers although eBay never provides any details as to what is behind those numbers. Similar with regards to the GMV. I have always been more curious about what the Net Merchandise Volume (NMV) is. Since eBay actually sells nothing that would be the GMV - (returns + refunds + chargebacks).

How about now that almost all the states charge a sales tax on the item and the shipping , ebay comes along and decides that they need to charge their percentage on this also...I sell mainly magazines and they are 14.5 per cent on these items..Please don't forget the runaway postal service that changes pricing almost weekly.
Good Luck to you sellers that stay with this runaway train as I'm getting off.

Well ebays charging on the tax: hmm did you grip when PayPal did it???
Law forces ebay to collect it.
Law could be changed to make the sellers collect it for each and every state and county city etc. How much would that cost you man.....

I'm sorry, but ...The IRS is involved in every transaction.... What made you think they were not before? A company that keeps records of others profits is EVERYWHERE.
Great Moms turn them off first.

You're upset at ebay for complying with Federal law?
